Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the implementation of the three AmeriCorps programs in the National Service department, in close collaboration with the National Service Director, Manager of Member and Organizational Learning, VISTA Leaders and Summer Reads Outreach Specialists. Literacy Leadership places VISTA members full-time in schools, nonprofits, and public agencies for one year to work on specific capacity-building projects. Their roles involve developing, enhancing, or expanding high-quality literacy programming for children, youth, adults, or families in low-income communities. Summer Reads places AmeriCorps State and National members full-time in schools, nonprofits, and public agencies for 12 weeks over the summer as children’s literacy tutors, working to close the achievement gap. Digital Navigation Corps places AmeriCorps State and National members full-time in schools, nonprofits, and public agencies for one year to provide direct digital literacy skills training and support to learners. The National Service Recruitment Coordinator’s responsibilities include: 1) recruitment, screening, and enrollment of AmeriCorps members; 2) recruitment and onboarding of new host sites; and 3) department marketing and communications.

This position reports to the National Service Director.

The work environment consists of a typical office environment. Time spent on the computer is approximately 70%. Travel: Ability to travel to a variety of locations throughout the state. Ability to work nights or weekends. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Member recruitment, selection, and enrollment - 50%

  • Develop and implement an annual marketing and recruitment plan for AmeriCorps members for all three programs.
  • Coordinate recruitment outreach efforts, including building relationships with colleges/universities and community groups and attending recruitment events.
  • Work with host sites to develop targeted recruitment materials and position listings.
  • Coordinate and conduct AmeriCorps candidate interviews and phone screens, background/reference checks, and coordinate staff interviewers.
  • Coordinate Summer Reads site placement matches.
  • Communicate with applicants through each stage of the application, selection, and enrollment process. Ensure all applicant documentation is received and information is complete and accurate prior to member enrollment, maintaining records in accordance with AmeriCorps requirements.
  • Review and approve final AmeriCorps candidates, and select through the AmeriCorps recruitment system (eGrants).

Site recruitment and onboarding - 25%

  • In collaboration with the National Service Director, develop and execute an annual marketing and recruitment plan for new host sites for all three programs.
  • Assist with new host site selection.
  • Ensure that all host site documentation is received and information is complete and accurate, maintaining records in accordance with AmeriCorps requirements.
  • Facilitate onboarding/training for host site supervisors.
  • Conduct site visits to host sites.

Department communications and marketing - 15%

  • Maintain National Service sections of Literacy Minnesota website.
  • Coordinate with Marketing Manager on National Service department needs and contributions to agency communications.
  • Coordinate monthly newsletters for current members, supervisors, and alumni.
  • Contribute to the completion of progress reports for CNCS and other funders.
  • Collaborate with National Service team to develop departmental vision, annual goals, and work plan, and ensure National Service Program achieves the goals of Literacy Minnesota’s strategic plan.
  • Assist National Service Director in completion of annual CNCS program application.
  • Attend National Service team meetings, Literacy Minnesota staff meetings, contribute to Literacy Minnesota publications, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Responsibilities - 10%

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, social service, nonprofit management, business, marketing/communications, or related field, and two or more years experience in a program coordination role, preferably in a nonprofit, government, or education setting; or, equivalent combined education and work experience.
  • Background in literacy, volunteer management, national service, and/or education strongly desired.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Demonstrated commitment to public service.
  • Demonstrated success in marketing or recruitment.
  • Exceptional ability to bring diverse parties together in pursuit of common goals.
  • Self-directed, ability to work well independently and with a diverse group of people.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks are essential.
  • Computer skills, including experience with MS Office software, email, and internet.
  • Familiarity with utilizing social media platforms for marketing
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel to various locations across the state.
  • Previous service in AmeriCorps VISTA, AmeriCorps State/National, or another service year program and/or experience working with national service members strongly preferred.
