Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director and/or Assistant Director of Special Education, you will be responsible for providing social emotional interventions to the assigned population. You will work with our behavior intervention teachers and classrooms, and work collaboratively with all stakeholders to improve academic and social functioning through behavioral plans and other appropriate interventions. Additionally, this position provides an essential link between the community and home, striving to eliminate potential barriers.

Requirements
  • PA Certification:
    • Specialist - School Social Worker PK-12 (1851) or
    • Specialist - School Psychologist PK-12 (1875) or
    • Specialist - Secondary School Counselor (1837) or Elem. & Sec. School Counselor PK-12 (1839) or
    • Behavior Analyst certificate obtained through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) or
    • Behavior Specialist license issued by the Pennsylvania Department of State.
  • Experience with therapeutic counseling preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others and in a positive and effective manner with students.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation
  • Acceptable record of attendance
  • Completion and submission of all manadated pre-employment documents and information.
  • Such additions or alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable, consistent with applicable Pennsylvania law, regulations, and requirements of the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct formal and informal assessments of student functioning, developmental history, family and community structure, interpersonal relationships, adaptive behavior and cultural factors that may influence learning. (This may include making home visits.)
  • Assist in the intervention plans consistent with curriculum, student needs, strengths, social and cognitive functioning and cultural experiences.
  • Use student, family, school and community assessment to develop appropriate interventions to improve student learning.
  • Coordinate with administrators, teachers, outside agencies, mental, legal, health care workers, families and counselors to better serve the needs of students.
  • Works cooperatively with and maintains open lines of communication with administrators, parents, students, staff members, and the general public.
  • Provides staff members with procedures and recommendations for dealing effectively with exceptional students and/or at-risk students.
  • Conduct small group and/or individual social skills sessions as determined by administrators.
  • Coordinate prevention services for students, i.e. conflict resolution, victim assistance, etc.
  • Provide immediate and emergency intervention to those students who are temporarily incapacitated by trauma or serious emotional distress.
  • Assist students and their families to gain access to formal and informal community resources.
  • Coordinate interventions of students who are truant.
  • Consult with stakeholders to facilitate understanding of factors in the home, education agency and community that affect the students' educational experience.
  • Work with individuals, groups and organizations to develop programs and systems that promote student welfare and achievement.
  • Promote collaboration among community health, mental health and welfare service providers and facilitate student access to those services.
  • Persorm other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education, Assistant Director of Special Education, or Building Principal.
