Electronic Medical Records Specialist

Essential Functions:
- Proactively assists with the overall operational design, implementation, support, and ongoing maintenance of NorthStar's electronic medical record system. Ensures the system performs at the highest quality to maximize organizational and operational effectiveness, in both patient care service delivery and medical record documentation.
- Provides advanced EMR support services for staff. Participates in an "on-call" rotation to ensure after-hours staff support.
- Where necessary, supports any information technology (IT) issues.
- Collaborates with clinical education team to identify technical education needs of EMR end-users, including both newly hired and current staff. Acts as a technical teacher and resource to educational team, clinical teams, and departments to address in-service and/or ongoing education needs.
- Develops informational and instructional resources including knowledge-based articles, troubleshooting and training manuals, modules, and job aids.
- Reviews new products/system upgrades and develops training and communication related to these. Delivers new information, timely instruction, support, and guidance to both for internal field/office staff and external partners.
- Supports continual process improvement and quality assurance within the EMR to optimize performance and outcomes in collaboration with various individuals, departments, and leaders across the organization.
- Travels to other office sites to implement projects and provide electronic medical records support and training as needed.
- Demonstrates excellence in customer service.
- Maintains customer confidentiality with all records, reports and educational activities.
- Consistently follows all departmental and organizational protocols and practices to ensure service excellence is achieved with both internal and external customers, and that boundaries within the scope of practice are not exceeded.
- Actively participates in activities that promote NorthStar Care Community's mission in the community.
- Adheres to organizational Code of Conduct, policies and procedures and all regulatory and legal requirements.
- Adheres to the NorthStar standards to care for every person, every time, 100% of the time.
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree with a concentration in healthcare or information services preferred or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience working with an electronic medical record system required.
- Detailed background knowledge or hands-on experience relevant to the company. Hospice knowledge and experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Must demonstrate strong proficiency in using technology equipment and software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office products) related to position.
- Must possess sound judgment and demonstrate strong critical thinking skills.
- Must demonstrate interpersonal relationship skills necessary to interact in a positive, professional manner with internal and external customers. Must demonstrate a proven track record and ability to work effectively with collaboratively with other staff members.
- Must demonstrate ability to maintain accountability and work independently and creatively while functioning as part of a cooperative, coordinated team.
- Must be able to coordinate several tasks simultaneously and have demonstrated an ability to organize and manage multiple competing priorities while maintaining a high degree of efficiency, accuracy, and confidentiality.

- Must be able to read, write and speak English and be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing in internal and external relationships for all essential job functions.
- Must be physically and mentally capable of performing all essential duties required of the position. The physical demands of the position include vision, effective speech, and hearing for extensive telephone contact; repetitive motion; driving or riding in a motor vehicle; standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, and stretching; and lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted.
- Must be able to work variable hours/shifts and/or days, including weekends. Must have the ability to occasionally work extended days, as necessary.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
