Hiring Yard Jockey Operators 1st Shift- $20/hr

Job Description

  • The candidate will drive a flatbed throughout the yard to transport steel beams and assist in backing up and prepping for loads coming in and out of the facility.

  • Initially, candidates will spend most of their time learning the placement of materials and the three areas where steel and steel plate are stored.

  • While candidates will primarily focus on yard jockey work, they may occasionally be required to perform other tasks.

  • The role involves working around flatbed trucks and railcar systems, adhering to all safety rules, and ensuring clear communication within the team.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Drive a flatbed throughout the yard to transport steel beams.

  • Assist in backing up and prepping for loads.

  • Learn the placement of materials and the storage areas for steel and steel plate.

  • Adhere to all safety rules and ensure visibility to other associates.

  • Work well with a trainer and as part of a team.

  • Recall and remember various locations of stored products.

  • Document inventory via paper and WMS with proficient computer skills.

  • Learn and retain information based on the color-coded inventory system.

Essential Skills

  • Proficient computer skills for inventory documentation.

  • Ability to see color clearly and memorize the color-coded system.

  • Good track record with no safety infractions in previous driving roles.

  • Warehouse inventory management experience.

  • Heavy industry experience including banding, loading, and material handling.

  • Experience with equipment operation such as cranes and truck loading.

  • CDL license and truck driving experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of construction or manufacturing experience.

  • Experience with forklift, bobcat, overhead crane, band saw, and rigging.

  • Interest in obtaining a CDL is preferred.

Work Environment

  • The work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings, with steel stored in a building and two separate yards onsite.

  • Candidates should be prepared for hot summer and cold winter conditions.

  • The environment has a construction feel, requiring hard hats, steel-toed boots, and safety vests. Candidates should be comfortable working in this type of setting.
