A Youth Care Specialist works closely with our youth ensuring our residents are safe and programming successfully within our facility. This position allows you to utilize your own creativeness to support our youth on a daily basis. The Specialist provides direct care, safety and security, and supervision of residents through positive role modeling. The Youth Care Specialist actively works to support the facility mission of providing an environment of safety so that the residents feel empowered to heal the wounds of the past and build a foundation of hope for the future. Responsibilities: Develop and maintain positive relationships with residents, families, and staff. Implement and follow through with treatment plans for residents. Provide daily care, supervision, and support to residents. Participate in therapeutic groups and activities. Maintain a safe and healthy living environment. Document and maintain accurate records of resident progress and behavior. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred At least one year of experience working with at-risk youth in a residential setting. Knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed care and treatment. Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a team. Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in challenging situations. Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening. Therapeutic Hold The employee may occasionally be required to physically restrain clients, using authorized hold procedures as a last resort for protection of resident and staff. Work Environment The work environment for this position is a residential facility setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to clients who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable personal behaviors, use profanity and sexually explicit phrases, make insulting remarks or threats regarding appearance, age, sex, or race, and exhibit defiance, dishonesty, and assaultive or self- destructive behaviors. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may be subject to occasional local travel as required by facility needs. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
