Primary duties would be that of an EKG Technician plus one of the following groups of duties:

  • Performs EKG's in out-patient and in-patient settings

  • Performs Exercise Stress Tests.

  • Applies Zio Patch, loop and event monitors.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Principal duties and responsibilities would be (in addition to the above) one of the following groups of duties:

Stress Technician

  • Performs Exercise Stress Testing , treadmill and monitoring .

  • Observes patients and monitoring tracings watching carefully for any sign of cardiac arrhythmias.

  • Explains in detail to patient, how to perform examination and obtain written consent form.

  • Takes brief medical history pertaining to present cardiac status and alerts physician of any significant changes in patient's history that may have occurred since test was ordered.

  • Performs all of the duties required of an EKG Technician.

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, write, perform simple arithmetic calculation and have basic knowledge of physical sciences at a level generally acquired through a high school education.

  • Work requires three to nine months of on-the-job training.

  • EKG interpretation and medical terminology helpful. Limited typing necessary. Plus training in both simple and complex arrhythmias

  • Must be knowledgeable in CPR

  • Must have interpersonal skills necessary to allay apprehensions and explain procedures to patients.

  • Must be able to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of EKG procedures and equipment.

  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to assess the needs of patients of all different age populations in order to provide care appropriately.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Works in normal patient care environment with no discomfort due to temperature, noise, dust and the like.

  • Work requires regular walking, standing, pushing of equipment and lifting and positioning of patients.

  • There is exposure to patients with Radium Implants, and Infectious Diseases.

  • Frequent contacts with patients, physicians, and secretaries.
