The Assistant Director of Residence Life and Student Conduct is a pivotal role within the department, responsible for overseeing key aspects of both residence life and student conduct. This live-in optional position plays a significant part in creating a positive residential experience that fosters academic and personal development while upholding community standards and addressing student conduct.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Conduct:

  • Serve as a conduct officer for students, managing a personal caseload of conduct cases.
  • Advise and collaborate with conduct officers on case investigations, hearings, and sanctioning, ensuring alignment with university policies.
  • Communicate with students regarding conduct processes, interim measures, and outcomes.
  • Oversee the administration and completion of sanctions.
  • Contribute to assessment efforts, including evaluating the educational outcomes of sanction-based learning and the effectiveness of conduct officers.
  • Assist the Director of Residence Life & Student Conduct in educating the campus community about student rights, responsibilities, and expected behavior through the code of conduct.
  • Serve as Title IX investigator.
Residence Life Oversight:
  • Manage, lead, and organize our pro-staff on-call duty schedule before each term.
  • Manage the recruitment, selection, and training processes for new and returning Community Advisors (CAs) & House Assistants (HAs), including Fall, Spring, and Summer training programs as well as in-services and all-staff meetings.
  • Oversee the implementation and assessment of the Residential Programming Model and educational, community, and social programming initiatives.
  • Oversee and manage Drew University's four distinctive and culturally rich Theme Houses, ensuring they align with departmental goals and university policies. Actively contribute to the growth and expansion of our Theme House program, fostering new, unique, and creative communities.
  • Serve in a rotating on-call duty schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, providing crisis response and management for the campus community.
Collaboration and Community Engagement:
  • Partner with various university departments (e.g., Campus Safety, Counseling, Student Health Services) to support the holistic development of students within the residential community.
  • Engage with students and staff to resolve elevated conflicts, contributing to a positive and inclusive residential environment.
Standard Department Responsibilities:
  • Maintain accurate records, compile data, and generate reports related to student conduct and residence life.
  • Participate in department meetings, staff training sessions, and campus events, such as Accepted Students Days and Open Houses as well as opening and closing of our halls and graduation.
  • Uphold and enforce university policies, maintaining high ethical standards and professionalism.
Qualifications:

Education:
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field required.
Experience:
  • At least 2-3 years of professional experience in Residence Life, Student Conduct, Student Affairs, or a related area, with experience in student conduct processes and residential education preferred.
Skills:
  • Strong understanding of student development theory, legal issues in higher education (e.g., FERPA, Title IX), and best practices in student conduct administration.
  • Proficiency in using conduct management systems (e.g., Maxient) and other relevant technology.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
