Job Description
The Laboratory Technician, under general supervision, prepares and maintains laboratory equipment.
Responsibilities:
-Molecular biology work (RNA/DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR) under BSL-2 conditions, laboratory maintenance such as insect colony care, and opportunities for field work collecting arthropod vectors and biological samples from wildlife.
-Work in BSL-3 containment with viruses and vectors is possible, depending on the candidate.
-Literature reviews will also be job duties.
-Sets-up and maintains equipment for the assigned laboratory and updates laboratory computers.
-Improves and develops new experiments to be implemented into assigned laboratories.
-Assists undergraduate and graduate students with their research projects.
-Maintains inventory and orders parts and supplies as needed. Maintains laboratories according to Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) specifications.
-Provides logistical support with computers in the laboratory.
-Performs laboratory and prep room cleanup.
-Other duties as required
Required Education and Experience:
-Associate degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-One year of related lab work experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Knowledge of lab room preparation and lab techniques and safety.
-Ability to work outdoors during field research as well as indoors during lab research.
-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred licenses or certifications for this position:
-Drivers License
