Pediatric Oncology Nurse II: Night Shift Infusion Center

As a Pediatric Oncology Nurse in our Infusion Center/Acute Care Clinic, you'll be part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team that serves on the frontlines of our patients' care. Our three-bed Acute Care Clinic plays a critical role at St. Jude, serving patients from across the hospital who require immediate attention for urgent or emergent fever, pain, and medical reactions. Because of the unique and variable nature of our clinics, you'll have the opportunity to utilize every clinical skill in your toolbox, thinking critically and collaborating with your team to triage and treat patients. You'll also be the first person to greet and assess patients who arrive for a procedure or sedation before the clinic opens.

- Weekday nights- 36 hours weekly
Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as a patient/ family advocate; Seek opportunities to communicate and coordinate patient care activities throughout the continuum in collaboration with other members of the Health Care Team.
- Accountable for high quality patient care through implementation of the nursing process including assessment of patient needs (physical, psychosocial, educational), design of a collaborative plan of care and implementation of the plan with appropriate evaluation of patient progress towards outcomes.
- Provide age appropriate nursing care and education in collaboration with other team members, by applying the nursing process.
- Assess knowledge base and learning needs of patients and families; Utilize all aspects of nursing process in providing direct patient care; Use professional judgment while caring for patients and families.
- Communicate with MDs regarding patient response to treatments and care and follow up with patient/family understanding of teaching; Manage patient and clinical outcomes through active participation in continuous evaluation and improvement of patient care.
- Ensure a safe, clean environment for patient/team members by adhering to infection control policies/ universal precautions, educating patient/family, team members on infection control policies, enforcing infection control policies on nursing units.
- Ensure that patient care areas are appropriately stocked with all necessary supplies and equipment in good working order.
- Assess and address physical and emotional needs/problems of patients/ families undergoing treatment/ therapy (e.g., Radiation Therapy (RT)) and initiate care appropriate to specific acute reactions.
- Support the nursing plan of care, including patient, family and significant others in its development and revision.
- Continually update knowledge of the patient's condition and status and adjust priorities to reflect changing patient needs.
- Stay up-to-date with current protocols pertinent for the care of patients receiving treatments.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS), required. Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS), OR Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS, preferred as applicable.
Minimum Experience:
- BSN required with completion of 18 months of clinical nursing experience.
- St. Jude or other RN experience required.
- Intermediate pediatric assessment, critical thinking, and pain assessment skills.
- Some experience in pediatric or oncology nursing.
- Working knowledge of research protocols.
- Strong knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on the assigned unit.
- Strong knowledge of the principles of growth and development for all ages served.
- Strong ability to assess and interpret age specific data about the patient's status.
- Strong clinical nursing, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
- Proven performance in earlier role.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:
- (LC: RN-TN) Must possess a current Tennessee State Board of Nursing license if primary residence is Tennessee or a Nurse Licensure non-Compact state.
- (LC: RN-ARK or RN-MISS) Must possess a current State Board of Nursing license in the state of primary residence if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state.
- Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON) preferred.
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred
Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
