COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: This position is paid in accordance with the Greenville Education Association Master Agreement. This position is eligible for benefits.

JOB SUMMARY: The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher will instruct, coach, and mentor children under the age of six with special needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: other duties may be assigned
  • Instructional Planning and Delivery
    • Plans a program of activities that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of preschool students with varying special needs (ECDC, ASD, OHI, SLI, EI)
    • Schedules, attends, and conducts Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team ("MET") and Individualized Education Program Team ("IEPT") meetings within required timelines
    • Analyzes performance data to provide targeted instruction based on individual student needs
    • Develops and implements learning activities that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program, reflect accommodations based in the Individualized Education Program ("IEP") and show written evidence of preparation as required
    • Coordinates with other special education service providers (speech, occupational therapy, psych, school social worker) for testing, planning, and servicing needs
    • Utilizes technology to strengthen the teaching and learning process
    • Utilizes assistive technology to strengthen and improve communication of learners
  • Monitoring Student Progress and Potential
    • Conducts ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing, as determined by the student's IEP
    • Provides student progress reports each trimester
    • Supports the mission and vision of the school
    • Strong classroom management and organization
    • Creates as classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
    • Understands preschool development and adapts the classroom environment to meet developmental delays
    • Uses collected incremental data to adjust instruction and supports focused on each student's individualized goal
  • Other Duties
    • Uses effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly to students, parents, and staff
    • Directs the work of classroom support staff to differentiate instruction and student growth
    • Collaboratively engages with the building staff, as an integral part of the MTSS system
    • Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
    • Participates in staff development activities that improve job-related skills and professional growth
    • Keeps informed of and complies with state and district policies for special education
    • Compiles, maintains, and files all reports and other required documents
    • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serves on professional learning communities ("PLCs") as required
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder endorsement strongly preferred
  • Highly qualified and certified to teach early childhood special education (ZA endorsement and one area of special education or ECSE endorsement required)
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate
