Position Overview

Design, write and maintain the university SQL database system so that the right person can get the information they need at the right time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Will be responsible for maintaining the university Microsoft SQL database software to manage, implement, and create ways to store, organize, program, write scripts and maintain the integrity of the SQL database
  • Keeping Database up to day
  • Maintaining and managing database design and development
  • Managing Database Access
  • Designing maintenance procedures and putting them into operation
  • Ensuring that databases meet user requirements
  • Managing database Security/Integrity thru backup and restore procedures
  • Build and maintain SQL scripts on Microsoft SQL Server
  • Implementing security measures
  • Defining objective through consultation with staff at all levels
  • Writing reports, documentation and operating manuals
  • Testing and modifying databases to ensure that they operate reliably
  • Provide user training, support and feedback
  • Writing disaster recovery plans
  • Archiving data
  • Making good decisions and excellent multi-tasking skills are key requirements.
  • Must be able to communicate well with technical and non-technical individuals.
  • Install and test software upgrades.
  • Responsible for responding to Helpdesk Tickets in timely manner


Supervisory Responsibilities:

This person will supervisor 2 employees (Helpdesk Technician and Desktop Support)

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully the person must have several years of SQL/Database implementation, programming, and writing of scripts experience. The individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required. Must have a working knowledge of Windows Server 2016 and above. Must also have a working knowledge of Windows Active Directory, IIS (Microsoft Web Server), and knowledge and understanding of VMWare.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university or two to three years related experience and/or

Training in Computer Science or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

The ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. The ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Mathematical Skills

The ability to calculate figures and amounts such as, discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages,

Area circumference and volume. Have the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

The ability to define problems and collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. The ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions with mathematical diagrams to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Microsoft SQL certification preferred, VM Ware knowledge
