Lead Engineer, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

This machine learning engineer will lead an AI platform team supporting 140+ Hearst magazines. The team currently employs state of the art technologies in generative AI, deep learning, machine learning and software engineering. This role will lead business impactful use-cases and have visibility across the organization.

- Aware of generative AI industry trends, sufficient knowledge to identify opportunities for Hearst and lead projects based on generative AI
- Serve as a hands on technical expert in generative AI, machine learning, and software engineering
- Oversee a team of engineers by providing daily feedback on projects and longer term career development
- Guide projects from proof of concept to production, monitoring and retraining
- Perform analysis of projects to ensure they are conducted with rigor and adhere to modern engineering principle
- Partner with product to jointly identify, prioritize and establish acceptance requirements
- Working with cross-functional teams to identify/create metrics that are impactful to the business
- Become an expert on our available data and business to identify high-value projects that will lead to significant revenue opportunities.
- Own and drive the foundational work of ML/AI at Hearst Magazines
Requirements
- A Master's (preferred) degree in computer science, data science or related technical field
- Minimum of eight years of professional machine learning and software development experience
- Minimum five years of experience leading ML/AI teams
- Experience in developing and implementing recommendation engines, leveraging data-driven algorithms to enhance user experience and engagement.
- Knowledge of machine learning techniques for classification, clustering, regression, descriptive and inferential statistics.
- Solid experience with techniques, frameworks and tools to productionize large language models systems and able to identify relevant techniques to establish a position and lead projects to improve the performance, robustness and scalability of existing systems
- Data analysis and algorithm development
- Experience with Python programming language and SQL database queries
Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa. This is HYBRID in NYC 3 days/week.
The base salary for this role is between $190k - 219K annually. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors such as transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
