The Position:
The Behavior Specialist is a trained professional; specializing in designing, guiding, and implementing effective instructional programs and/or strategies as well as positive behavior supports for all students. Applicants are encouraged to highlight their areas of specialty (Autism, Emotional Disturbance, ADHD).

Essential Duties:
  • Oversees District Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT).
  • Collaborates and consults in the development of educational programs and services for students with Autism or other emotional and behavioral concerns, including programs for teaching verbal behavior, imitation skills, social emotional learning, social skills and instructional control for individual students as well as classroom management procedures.
  • Determines the need for Functional Behavior Assessment and work with team to develop data collection system. Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments as part of the evaluation process. Collaborate with team to incorporate FBA results into the IEP.
  • Assists in developing interventions and behavior plans for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behaviors.
  • Assists in developing procedures and training materials for district staff involved with students with challenging behaviors for the purpose of enhancing programs for students and ensuring that program operations are in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Assists teams in providing efficient and sensitive measures of student progress and assist with progress monitoring and data analysis.
  • Conducts workshops, training, in-service presentations, etc. in classroom management techniques and other topics for the purpose of developing skills and establishing effective relationships with behaviorally or emotionally disturbed students.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
  • Adheres to regulations required by Chapter 14 of the IDEA, particularly with regard to the elements of Positive Behavioral Support. Educates other professionals and support staff on the guidelines and responsibilities of school personnel with regard to these regulations.
  • Participates in the IEP and/or evaluation process as a team member for students with significant behavioral issues.
  • Consults with parents and guardians regarding best practices when dealing with individual student behavioral issues.
  • Performs any other job-related duties, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.

Requirements for position:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work or Mental Health Counseling.
  • 3 years of experience in the school setting with students who have disabilities, preferred
Certification/Licensure:
  • Must have Board Certified Behavior Analyst certificate obtained through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.
  • License for Behavior Specialist in the State of Pennsylvania, preferred.
  • Applied Behavioral Analysis certification, preferred.
  • PA teaching certificate, preferred.
