Role Summary

We're seeking an experienced, driven, and passionate engineering team member with backgrounds in programming and distributed systems to join our Performance Engineering team. This team plays a crucial role in maintaining the visibility and scalability of the TraceLink global platform.

As part of the Performance Engineering (PE) team, you'll have ample opportunities to leverage your strengths, contribute to building a scalable platform, and collaborate closely with various engineering stakeholders.

In this role, you'll work within a global team in an inclusive environment, primarily focusing on AWS cloud-based deployments. Your main responsibility will be to continually assess opportunities, anticipate and identify potential issues, and then address them to maintain optimal performance and enhance user experience.

You'll be actively involved in the entire development cycle, working closely with developers, technical analysts, and other units. Your tasks will include programming, testing, troubleshooting, and utilizing various tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Kibana, Gatling, and JMeter.

We expect candidates to have experience using monitoring and deep-dive tools, proficiency in programming languages, strong project management capabilities, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure high availability, performance, and reliability expected by our customers, aligning with defined Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).

  • Collaborate with engineering and business stakeholders to maintain and refine the backlog of user epics for prioritized opportunities.

  • Design, build, document, and test new tools and technologies as part of an Agile development team, focusing on eliminating bugs, enhancing performance/efficiency, or extending capabilities.

  • Drive testing, diagnosis, and troubleshooting efforts, including performance deliverables and test automation, while continuously expanding and improving testing coverage. Helped design and implement self-healing and resiliency patterns.

  • Assist in implementing the Performance Engineering team’s OKRs to achieve business goals.

  • Actively participate in the development process, delivering on commitments, communicating issues, and collaborating with team members across different teams.

  • Provide suggestions to enhance tools/processes and assist in defining sprint epics and stories based on business priorities.

  • Participate in impact analysis of performance issues and collaborate closely with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and Development teams.

  • Contribute to blameless postmortems and refine playbooks to reduce Mean Time To Recovery (MTTR).

Qualifications

  • A seasoned professional with hands-on programming experience in Java.

  • Proficient in designing and implementing solutions to evaluate and enhance performance and scalability.

  • Familiar with observability tools for diagnosing and resolving performance issues.

  • Skilled in performance analysis and optimization of systems and infrastructure.

  • Experience in implementing and maintaining continuous integration testing.

  • Capable of troubleshooting system malfunctions and supporting extended teams.

  • Able to translate business goals, requirements, and complex system diagrams into effective performance engineering solutions.

  • Hands-on experience with tools and techniques for diagnosing overall system performance.

  • Familiarity with AWS (or any cloud) services from both technological and cost optimization perspectives (desired).

  • Experience with Chaos engineering tools such as ChaosMonkey and Gremlin, demonstrating a track record of enhancing overall system resilience (desired).

  • Proficient in mature development practices and tools for source control, security, and deployment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
