Job Title: RN Corrections Job Specialty: Nursing Job Duration: 14 weeks Shift: 3x12.0 hours night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), work weekends every other week Guaranteed Hours: Not specified Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of RN experience in corrections License: Current unencumbered RN License Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) Must-Have: - Graduate from an accredited school of nursing- Ability to work in a correctional facility environment- Ability to meet physical demands and conditions of the job Job Description: - Assist in the assessment of the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of patients under the supervision of a Charge Nurse.- Help plan individual treatment programs by consulting with Charge Nurses and other staff while applying knowledge and available resources.- Implement individualized treatment programs as directed by healthcare practitioners.- Count controlled substances, syringes, needles, and sharps with another staff member at the beginning of each shift and sign count logs.- Adhere to established policies, procedures, and protocols for clinical and technical aspects of care.- Respond to codes or patient crises according to site policies.- Administer medications in accordance with healthcare practitioners' orders and protocols, including proper techniques and routes of administration.- Obtain body fluid specimens and perform EKGs using proper techniques and procedures.- Assist healthcare practitioners in medical or minor surgical procedures as necessary.- Implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plans through proper techniques as ordered.- Document nursing encounters using the SOAP form of charting.- Communicate information to nursing staff, physicians, and supervisory personnel as necessary.- Attend mandatory staff meetings and training. Physical Demands and Conditions: - Work in a clean, well-lit environment with fluctuating temperatures.- Requires substantial time working with a computer.- Requires lifting and carrying equipment and supplies up to 35 pounds, pushing and pulling up to 75 pounds.- Must be able to walk, stand, sit, negotiate stairs, and lift patients as needed.- Potential exposure to blood, body substances, and hazardous materials.- Perform duties in a correctional facility setting, adhering to security rules and regulations to minimize risks.This job operates independently within a correctional facility and may require occasional travel based on specific needs.
