The CCSG Data Specialist will provide ongoing support for the federally mandated reporting requirements of the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) of the UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center. The CCSG Data Specialist will work with a high degree of independence and under general supervision and be responsible for a variety of tasks revolving around the management of our Cancer Center databases. This position will involve collecting, aggregating, cleaning, and assembling reports related to data required by the CCSG. The data involved in the process will include, but not limited to, information about Cancer Center members' grants, publications, events, return on investment (internal funding, progress reporting, trainee data, recruitment, retention) and community outreach. The CCSG Data Specialist will assist in developing better data coordination and management procedures, organizing, and creating reports from existing databases, and providing recommendations for strategic improvements to the Cancer Center's data organization. There is the option for this position to be remote/hybrid.

Job Responsibilities Include:

1.Collect and organize the data needed for reporting on the Cancer Center Support Grant. Maintain the overall integrity and quality of the membership, publication, and grant databases, including regular data improvement and cleaning. Identify and analyze ambiguous or conflicting work processes related to information management and reporting issues and lead improvement efforts. Optimize the quality and use of the Cancer Center's databases by staying current on enhancements to functionality. (40%)
2.Develop, refine, and maintain reports using available reporting tools and NCI required templates, for a wide range of external and internal reports, Cancer Center program meetings and retreats, grant applications, and other research related activities. Analyze business rules, process requirements, and federally-mandated regulations to provide feedback on updating current software systems. Advise leadership on selecting additional information to be collected and organized to further the Cancer Center's mission. (25%)
3.Development and maintain tracking mechanisms and identify new sources for information elements that will increase the value of the data maintained by the Cancer Center. Develop user manuals and standard operating procedures for existing and new information systems. Train staff members and Cancer Center leaders on how to use new applications. (10%)
4.Assist with the management of the Cancer Center membership application process. Follow a monthly protocol to provide membership letters to new members and new member lists to other administrative teams. (5%)
5.Oversee quality assurance procedures for existing data. Identify problems with current quality assurance systems. Develop and refine new business processes for these systems. (10%)
6.Monitor and optimize performance of the databases. Plan for backup and recovery of database information and establishes guidelines for archiving data and maintaining archived data. (5%)
7.Perform other duties as assigned. (5%)

Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Experience: At least four years of experience

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Masters' degree

Experience: 1-2 years' experience in a similar role

Preferred Skills Include:
1.Ability to effectively communicate with Research Administration team and operational leadership.
2.Adaptability and flexibility to adjust to fluctuating changes in project needs.
3.Comfort in navigating ambiguity with a can-do attitude, adaptable and quick learner, willingness to acquire and develop new skills as needed.
4.Excellent writing, organizational and quantitative skills. Ability to work effectively with teams as well as independently. Flexible and creative.
5.Able to communicate well with a wide variety of stakeholders, including administrative staff, faculty members, IT staff, and software vendors.
6.Demonstrated problem solving ability.
7.Able to work under pressure while remaining attentive to detail.
8.Project management skills.
9.Highly organized and a self-motivator.
10.High degree of knowledge and experience with a range of software programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite and various database programs (Eval (Advarra) and InfoReady).
11.Capability to be proactive to assure smooth operations and maintain accurate records.

Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
