Primary Responsibilities:
- Reviews patient activity needs, plans the total recreation program based on the individual needs and interest of patients, and schedules monthly programs of events and activities.
- Coordinates and provides recreation activities: reality orientation, current events, discussion groups, re-motivation therapy, sensory stimulation, cultural activities, religious services, special entertainment, out-trips, special events, and one-on-one visits as indicated.
- Coordinates and implements all programs personally, by delegation, and by volunteer
- Assists in the movement of patients to and from recreational areas.
- Encourages and instructs individuals in recreation skills and activities.
- Provides recreational activities at bedside when indicated.
- Helps patients develop newspapers, and conduct clubs, hobby groups, and intra-community meetings.
- Arranges special events, entertainment, and trips away from Essex Meadows for and with patients including holidays, evenings, and weekends.
- Prepares and maintains pertinent medical records, reports, studies and schedules in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Maintains accurate documentation of residents' progress and response to programs.
- One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must meet the criteria established by state and federal regulations for therapeutic recreation.
- Must either hold current Recreational Therapist certificate or be actively enrolled in approved program.
- Previous Therapeutic Recreation experience necessary
- Demonstrates cooperation in assisting others and ability to work as a team.
