Essex Meadows isseeking hospitality focused Therapeutic Recreation Director, working in accordance with established policies and procedures and/or instruction from the Administrator or Director of Nursing, is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of a varied activity program designed to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the Health Center patients.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Reviews patient activity needs, plans the total recreation program based on the individual needs and interest of patients, and schedules monthly programs of events and activities.
  • Coordinates and provides recreation activities: reality orientation, current events, discussion groups, re-motivation therapy, sensory stimulation, cultural activities, religious services, special entertainment, out-trips, special events, and one-on-one visits as indicated.
  • Coordinates and implements all programs personally, by delegation, and by volunteer
  • Assists in the movement of patients to and from recreational areas.
  • Encourages and instructs individuals in recreation skills and activities.
  • Provides recreational activities at bedside when indicated.
  • Helps patients develop newspapers, and conduct clubs, hobby groups, and intra-community meetings.
  • Arranges special events, entertainment, and trips away from Essex Meadows for and with patients including holidays, evenings, and weekends.
  • Prepares and maintains pertinent medical records, reports, studies and schedules in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of residents' progress and response to programs.
Qualifications:
  • One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must meet the criteria established by state and federal regulations for therapeutic recreation.
  • Must either hold current Recreational Therapist certificate or be actively enrolled in approved program.
  • Previous Therapeutic Recreation experience necessary
  • Demonstrates cooperation in assisting others and ability to work as a team.
