The Control Systems Engineering Team Lead has demonstrated mastery in process control system engineering and programming/diagnostics expertise, safety instrumented system and emergency shutdown system expertise, safety integrity level expertise, and control maintenance services capital planning and execution expertise, for the facility. Delivers results through own team and in collaboration with other teams to provide DCS systems and control engineering services in order to meet and exceed terminal goals. The Control Systems Engineering Team is accountable for developing the business plan and budget for their respective area. This position will have direct reports. [PT1]
This position is located in Hackberry, LA. Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) is required. Employees' primary residence must be located within a one-hour drive from the Hackberry plant site. This measure will assure that response time for callouts is kept to a minimum, which increases the safety of our employees in an unexpected or emergent situation.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Retains technical authority related to the implementation of safety barriers in the following systems distributed control systems (DCS), stand alone PLC's, emergency shutdown system (ESD) / safety instrumented system (SIS) activities and fire and gas system (FGS). Responsibilities include timely execution of Engineering Service Requests (ESRs) by self or team, approval of Management of Change (MOC), ensure accuracy of relevant Process Safety Information (PSI), arbitrates difficult discussions regarding changes to or operation and maintenance of these systems.
- Ensures team members complete mandatory training requirements in a timely manner. Generates a staff development program and manages team competence following performance review cycle, direct training, on the job opportunities, personal coaching, fitting correct individuals to roles, ensuring correct team size to meet organizational goals.
- Has a guardianship role in maintaining OT/IT security for control systems. Develops, delivers and maintains new processes to meet relevant standards using risk based assessments to define needs.
- Develop KPIs in the areas of alarm management, DCS controller performance, SIS & FGS regulatory compliance, cyber security for OT, ESR & MOC status for department and any others as relevant, track and report; daily weekly monthly, ensure visibility of KPIs to own team and rest of company.
- Participate in business plan and budget development cycle for own team, manages budget through monthly forecasting process.
- Oversees team initiatives through schedule development, making and managing commitments, routine follow-up of progress, assisting team members to overcome barriers to progress.
- Manage delivery of own team's ESRs and MOCs, prioritize using risk based methods, routinely review progress and assist in solutions where required. Ensure that MOC's that are ready for implementation are tracked closely to implement when opportunities arise and are included in turnaround scope meeting the timeline requirements of the turnaround management team.
- Review own processes on a regular basis, ensuring to keep processes as simple as needful, also providing feedback on other site processes with an aim to make progress without over complicating needs.
- Engages with other teams to understand issues as they arise, takes initiative to enhance delivery of organizational goals.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering required (Electrical, Electronic or Chemical discipline preferred).
- Minimum of 20 years of direct DCS experience required; and a minimum of 4+ years of experience in a similar position of responsibility and expertise in an operating LNG Liquefaction facility preferred.
- At least 15 years in the chemical, petrochemical, industry, or oil and gas industry.
- Has proven track record in troubleshooting and analysis of instrumentation and process control system problems.
- Prior experience with DeltaV control systems and Rockwell PLC systems preferred. Experience with GE Mark-VI, Aspentech DMC, PI ODS, and OPC standards is desired.
- Prior experience in solving alarm management systems, preferred.
- Familiar/expert level knowledge of following standards; IEC61508, IEC61511, IEC62443
- Have basic computer skills including project management, database, and use of Microsoft Office programs.
- Possesses good planning and organization skills and meets work deadlines.
- Provides leadership and discipline expertise to less experienced support staff, engineering design, maintenance, and operation groups.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate fluently in English.
- Self-starter with ability to work strategically with minimal direction.

- Must be able to stand, walk, climb, run, sit, kneel, twist, bend, pull, push, carry, lift, reach overhead and drive. Most activities involve movement of either the upper and lower body extremities or both and the joints associated with these areas of the body.
- Must be able to sit at a desk and operate a computer for extended periods of time.
- Must be willing to be on call, work outside of normal business hours as required and handle emergency response responsibilities.
- Must be willing to travel for trainings and/or meetings as required.
