Valmar Merchant Services is a leading provider of payment processing solutions that specializes in high-risk markets while also serving any merchants accepting credit cards. We are looking for a Compliance Officer to play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing our compliance framework with responsibility for ensuring that our operations adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards in the Merchant Services sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in compliance management and/or underwriting within the financial services industry.

Location:

  • On-site at corporate office in Williamsville, New York with flexibility to work remotely when necessary.
  • For applicants located outside of Western New York, fully remote option is available only for those with 3+ Years of Payment Compliance Experience with applicable industry knowledge of TSYS, IRIS, and Gateways.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor compliance policies and procedures to ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular compliance risk assessments and audits to identify and mitigate potential compliance risks.
  • Stay abreast of changes in laws and regulations affecting the Merchant Services industry and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to provide guidance on compliance-related matters and assist in the development of compliance training programs.
  • Investigate and respond to compliance incidents, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the company's products, services, and business operations to effectively assess and address compliance issues.
  • Interface with external auditors during examinations and audits.
  • Compile monthly reporting and trending analysis and present results to management.
  • Create annual and ad hoc reports of high-risk payment clients.
  • Conduct the underwriting process for merchant applications, ensuring thorough evaluations of financial documents, credit reports, and other relevant information.
  • Establish and enforce underwriting guidelines to manage risk and ensure the financial stability of merchant accounts.
  • Work closely with sales and account management teams to provide underwriting support and address inquiries related to merchant applications.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in compliance is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in compliance roles within the financial services industry. A focus on Merchant Services and ISO operations is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards in the Merchant Services sector is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across different teams.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in work.
  • Experience within the Payments Industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of TSYS and Payment Gateways is preferred.
