Senior Machine Learning Engineering Manager

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineering Manager at Capital One, you will lead a team dedicated to scaling and operationalizing machine learning applications. You will contribute to technical design, development, and implementation of machine learning applications, with a focus on architectural design and high-performance delivery. In this influential role, you will stay updated on the latest innovations and best practices in machine learning engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of ML models and components to address real-world business challenges, in collaboration with Product and Data Science teams
  • Inform ML infrastructure decisions by leveraging expertise in ML modeling techniques and issues
  • Write and test application code, develop and validate ML models, and automate tests and deployment to solve complex problems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams to enhance software supporting big data and ML applications
  • Oversee retraining, maintenance, and monitoring of models in production
  • Utilize cloud-based architectures and technologies to optimize ML models at scale
  • Construct optimized data pipelines to support ML models
  • Implement continuous integration and deployment best practices to ensure successful deployment of ML models and application code
  • Ensure adherence to Responsible and Explainable AI best practices and governance

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience designing and building data-intensive solutions using distributed computing
  • At least 4 years of experience programming with Python, Scala, or Java
  • At least 3 years of experience building, scaling, and optimizing ML systems
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience leading teams developing ML solutions
  • At least 4 years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or doctoral degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, or a similar field
  • 4+ years of on-the-job experience with industry-recognized ML frameworks
  • 3+ years of experience developing performant, resilient, and maintainable code
  • 3+ years of experience with data gathering and preparation for ML models
  • Experience developing and deploying ML solutions in a public cloud
  • 3+ years of experience building production-ready data pipelines
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly
  • Established impact on the ML industry through presentations, papers, blog posts, open source contributions, or patents
