Job Overview

The Buyer/Planner places orders for assigned commodities, materials and supplies from both existing and new sources of supply as directed. This role obtains quotations, draws comparisons, and makes recommendations. Interviews with and visits facilities of potential new suppliers. Participates in the company SCM (Supplier Chain Management) program and supplier audits to support the Corporate Quality Policy and ISO-9001:2015 requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Secures and analyzes quotations; negotiates prices and terms with suppliers; and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality and delivery
  • Initiates purchase orders for parts, services and/or special tools with suppliers
  • Arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required; coordinates closely with plant engineering to ensure timely execution of product sourcing activities
  • Coordinates, as appropriate, quality matters and engineering changes or developments between company activities and suppliers
  • Assists in qualifying new sources and in the resolution of production, design, quality and/or delivery problems
  • Interfaces with inter-company departments, including Engineering, Quality Control, Production and Stock Room
  • Determines actions needed on move-up and MRP reports daily
  • Interfaces with vendors to move-up, delay and/or check on status of parts on order
  • Maintains costs, information and reports with the Accounting Department
Educational/Training Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related area
  • Minimum 3 years of related work experience of purchasing in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in ERP environment and/or in international sourcing
  • Electronic components purchase experience preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Advanced skills in MS Office
  • Able to travel occasionally
  • Intermediate Internet skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
