JOB DESCRIPTION for Child Nutrition Cafeteria Worker
A Child Nutrition employee who works in an individual cafeteria must be able and willing to perform any and all of the following duties as assigned by the manager:
- Serve food on the cafeteria line.
- Setting up, maintaining, and cleaning up for breakfast and lunch.
- Utilizing commercial kitchen equipment in the preparation of menu items.
- Performs daily clean-up procedures (dishes, sweeping, mopping, etc.).
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, be able to lift up to 40 lbs., and be able to perform repetitive tasks (preparing food, serving food, cleaning tables, sweeping, mopping, etc.).
- Must be able to lift and carry trays and/or pans containing liquid or solid foods up to 20 lbs.
- Must be able to read and comply with recipes.
- Be willing to work at different schools.
- Be reliable and on time.
- Comply with policies and procedures.
- A high level of commitment to customer satisfaction.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
1. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, be able to lift up to 40 lbs., and be able perform repetitive tasks (preparing food, serving food, cleaning tables, sweeping, mopping, etc.)
2. Must be able to lift and carry trays and or pans containing liquid or solid foods up to 20 lbs.
3. Must be able to work in various temperature environments, such as walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, and hot kitchens
4 Must be able to read and write, be proficient in basic math, and be able to use a calculator
5. Have the ability and be willing to follow written or oral instructions
6. Be willing to work in any situation
7. Be emotionally and physically capable of performing assigned duties at a sufficient speed to carry out an efficient operation
8. Have high standards for personal appearance and personal hygiene
9. Be interested in food preparation and service
10. Be courteous and tactful in dealing with people
11. Have an interest in school programs
12. Put forth best effort in all assigned duties
13. Be willing to learn proper food preparation methods
Responsibilities
1. Perform efficiently, and to the best of ability, the duties assigned, including gathering all ingredients and items needed for preparing menu items, in the time allotted
2. Attend training meetings as required
3. Report to work at designated time, clock in and sign in on time sheet and remain on the job until dismissed by the manager, then clock out and sign out
4. Notify the manager by phone call, not just by text, when unable to come to work
5. Maintain pleasant working relations with fellow employees by showing consideration for others, patience, respect, self-control and other desirable character traits
6. Follow all Forrest County School District policies
7. Follow instructions from the manager relating to safety measures, sanitation practices, work techniques, and methods of performing duties
8. Maintain desirable relations between school and community
9. Perform any duty assigned by the manager, and report to an alternate site if needed.
10. Help others when you have finished your duties
11. Work as a team member
Cashier's Responsibilities
1. Keep accurate, updated rosters on all students
2. Print a new roster for each serving line on the last day of the month
3. Never leave the cash drawer unattended or unlocked
4. Recognize and make sure all student meals are reimbursable
5. Handle advance payments, if assigned by manager
6. Handle all payment transactions for breakfast, lunch, extra sales and for adults
7. Record in-kind meals served
8. Operate point-of-service computer program
9. Make change quickly
10. Count money with the manager after breakfast and lunch, and compile daily reports for proper recording of meals and cash money
11. Take responsibility for cash drawer being over or short
12. Make bank deposit if manager are unable
**Count money for bank deposit with another employee. Both employees must sign and verify the deposit slip.
13. Assist with meal preparation and clean-up
14. Be patient, kind, helpful and understanding with all customers
15. Assist manager with all other duties assigned
16. Excellent handling at the point-of-service
17. Adhere to the responsibilities of the cafeteria worker when you are not cashiering
