Gateway Longview’s Residential Treatment Services is a therapeutic intervention for youth ages 12-18 and supports them in developing the skills needed to successfully live with their families or in the community.

Position Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

Create and maintain an atmosphere which is beneficial to the physical and emotional health of youngsters. Be responsible for guiding and directing the children in care and participating in the assessment of the progress and problems of each youngster. Prepare youngsters for successful living within societal norms.

Provide for the growth and development of each child in care through instructing, counseling, and directing them through their participation in the recreational/ vocational/ job-training/ cultural/ social components of the activities department safely on and away from the campus through the judicious use of discipline, crisis intervention, knowledge and supervision.

Work collaboratively with staff within the activities department as well as colleagues in other departments to assure the development and implementation of treatment plans and corresponding programming to meet the individual needs of the children in care.

Works effectively with the child’s family to develop an awareness of and to plan appropriate leisure time activities both in the home with the family and also within the home community. Confer with other departments as needed. Foster the social, vocational, and cultural needs and interest of each child and their family in such planning.

Submit all necessary reports in a timely manner and maintain accurate anecdotal records. Confer regularly with the supervisor of recreation on each child’s individual and group progress.

Be responsible for the security of any confidential materials. Assure the confidentiality of each child’s case through only necessary discussions at appropriate times and places. Maintain safety, appropriate physical appearance and security of all utilities space and equipment.

Attend all required staff meetings and supervision. Participate in Treatment Team meetings. Perform those duties which are essential to the function and purpose of the residential activities program and/or needs of the children in care.

Ability to physically restrain youth after successful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training
Qualifications

B.S. in Recreation or related field

Certified as a Lifeguard
-
Associates Degree or High School Diploma and 2 years of experience
