SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Manager of Information Technology, this position is responsible for the Cooperative's network infrastructure. The System Administrator is responsible for the implementation and administration of firewalls, switches, and routers to ensure systems are secure, reliable, and available to support business needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains in-depth understanding of the UEC IT environment
  • Ensure system software installs, maintenance, break-fix activities, and cyber security initiatives are implemented in accordance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements.
  • Responsible for the implementation and administration of firewalls, switches, and routers to ensure systems are secure, reliable, and available to support business needs.
  • Directs, coordinates, and implements network and system upgrades. Documents all implementations, guidelines, resolutions, and changes relating to system integration, ticket resolution and system architecture design within the IT Department change management guidelines.
  • Suggests standards, practices and procedures for continual improvement in assigned areas of IT services to IT Manager.
  • Through coordination with IT Manager, initiates and engages in active discussions with the departments to analyze business needs, and thoroughly outline technology improvements within the context of current and future business needs.
JOB DUTIES may include other duties as assigned.
  • Participates in 7x24 on-call schedule.
  • Assists with Service Desk Support by taking calls/emails and handling Incidents or Service Requests using current tools and procedures for recording and tracking all Incidents and Requests.
  • Monitors and responds to system events and alerts. Escalates issues to other members of the IT staff within the procedures defined.
  • Identifies own work based on direction and departmental priorities. Day-to-day work is self-initiated and self-directed.
  • Maintains up to date industry knowledge to improve technology awareness and self-education.
  • Follows defined procedures for incidents, requests, and changes. Escalates or communicates unresolved or highly visible to the appropriate management personnel within any defined procedures.
  • Collaborates with peers on problem solving, brainstorming, and projects. Ability to analyze and solve routine to highly complex problems independently and in a team environment.
  • Maintains accountability on assigned projects and timelines.
  • Maintains punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues and fosters a spirit of cooperation in the workplace.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY

This position may have supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE):

Education: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Information Technology, Computer Engineering or related field or equivalent years of related experience and/or certifications in these areas may be considered.

Experience: 7+ years related experience with networking systems, IP networking protocols, virtualization technologies, server operating systems, and knowledge of security best practices. Experience administering VoIP phone systems, routers, firewalls, switches, and client remote access software.

Preferred Qualifications (Experience and/or Certifications):
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies.
  • Ability to organize and drive own daily activities based on both broad and specific directives, processes, and procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task and focus on quality completion of tasks.
  • Implementation/administration/support of business systems
  • Implementation/administration/support of networks including design of Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs) and firewall management.
  • Information security experience including program implementation, log aggregation/correlation, platform tuning and incident response.
  • This position requires a valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from end-users and customers.
