Camp Counselor

The Camp Counselor position with Camp J at The Roth FamilyJCC of Greater Orlando, a part of Shalom Orlando, is responsible for providingprimary supervision and leadership for a designated group of campers in grades1-9, creating an engaging, safe, and inclusive environment that fostersindividual growth, builds community, and strengthens connections to Judaism,the Jewish people, and Israel through meaningful experiences andactivities.
Minimum Qualifications:
2025 CAMP SEASON DETAILS
- Dates: June 9-August 1, 2025
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, full-day program
- Training: Required attendance at orientation dates before camp start
- Commitment: The full summer season is highly preferred
- Provide direct supervision and care for an assigned group of campers (grades 1-9)
- Lead group through daily activities including swimming, sports, arts and crafts, field trips, and special events
- Create an inclusive environment that integrates Jewish values and Israeli cultural activities
- Adapt and modify activities to meet group needs while maintaining appropriate camper-to-staff ratios
- Collaborate with specialists and support staff to implement engaging programs
- Prepare and organize materials for group activities
- Build positive relationships with campers and support their social-emotional development
- Monitor individual camper needs and document/report concerns to leadership
- Maintain professional communication with parents about their child's experience
- Manage check-in/check-out procedures and daily attendance records
- Follow all safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Attend required staff meetings and training sessions
- Complete necessary documentation and incident reports
- Maintain equipment and supplies, reporting any facility issues
- Work cooperatively with all staff to support camp operations
Required Skills and Experience
- Must be 18 years or older
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills
- Experience working with children
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to serve as a positive role model
- Previous camp or childcare experience preferred
- Knowledge of Jewish culture and traditions is preferred
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (must obtain before camp starts)
- Physical ability to participate in active games and sports
- Must be able to swim and is required every day
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions

The work environment includes significant time outdoors in various weather conditions during the camp season. Position requires mobility to move from activity to activity, and the ability to respond quickly to situations involving camper safety. Must be comfortable in and around water, and able to work in various weather conditions.
