Howard County Library System (HCLS) is seeking dynamic summer STEM course Youth Peer Leads to intern for our HiTech STEM education programs. We believe that education should be project-based and fun and invite STEM-focused folks to apply

We are looking for high school students with Computer Science and Robotics experience who have a strong interest and ability to assist other youth (ages of 11-18) and assist with coding.

We are guided by these shared responsibilities:

  • Position Howard County Library System (HCLS) as a major component of public education for all ages

  • Advance HCLS' educational mission, effectively communicating our curriculum, which comprises Three Pillars (Self-Directed Education, Research Assistance & Instruction, Instructive & Enlightening Experiences)
Position:
  • Youth Peer Intern ($16/hr): Responsible for
    • Providing peer advice to students; as well as, verifying and updating code for our summer robotics program
    • Leading 4 robotics-based demonstrations and/or competitions on August 3rd or 4th
    • Provide instructional assistance for 2 classes
    • Leading group teen discussions
    • Participating in training program
Position opened until filled .

Requirements

Dates: June 24th - August 9th (start dates are negotiable)

Hours: (9:30 am - 2:00 pm)

Qualifications:
  • Must be a High School Junior, or Senior
  • Must have experience working on a school or organizational Robotics team (First Lego League, First Tech, SeaPerch, or other)
  • Passion for working on robotics projects, programming, or AI
  • Must have taken higher-level mathematics classes and at least 1 programming class.
  • Demonstrated ability to work quickly and perform under tight deadlines
