The Chief CRNA has a dual role:

Clinical CRNA: Administering Anesthesia

Administrative CRNA: being responsible administratively for all CRNAs

The Chief CRNA's Clinical and Administrative duties will be flexible upon the needs of the department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Master's degree in nursing required.

2. Graduate of an accredited School of Nurse Anesthesia required.

3. American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) active membership required.

4. Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in West Virginia or appropriate state board where services will be provided required.

5. Current Certification in Nurse Anesthesia in the state of West Virginia or appropriate state board where services will be provided required.

6. Three years of clinical experience as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) required.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates the delivery of patient care for Advanced Practice Professionals in accordance with Standards of Care, philosophy and plans of the Department of Anesthesiology.

2. Responsible for quality, safety, and performance within the Department of Anesthesiology.

3. Facilitates the development of departmental policies and procedures and standards of care.

4. Assumes responsibility for the patient focused performance improvement process engaging staff participation in multidisciplinary activities conducted for the purpose of improving the quality and reducing the cost of care. Develops and monitors appropriate operational performance measures. Reviews outcomes and improves operational systems to ensure continued improvement.

5. Selects, hires, manages, and evaluates the effectiveness of employees on an ongoing basis.

6. Coaches and counsels to correct identified performance deficiencies, developing plans which establish goals, provides follow-up and follows established hospital policies.

7. Provide leadership support regarding accreditation and regulatory activities including but not limited to OFLAC, CMS and other safety and quality initiatives as it relates to ANP or advanced practitioners.

8. Assist the department in meeting JACHO standards.

9. Fosters a competent staff through the provision of orientation, in-services, continuing education programs and competency validation programs.

10. Identifies current and anticipates future educational needs & develops plans to meet them.

11. Supports the education of students in nursing, medicine and allied health professions.

12. Participates in professional activities and organizations.

13. Supervise the clinical orientation of newly hired CRNA's.

14. Participate in the evaluation and in-servicing of new anesthetic equipment and monitors.

15. Same responsibilities as that of the staff CRNA and able to fill in clinically in a variety of cases.

16. Responsible for setting up a committee of CRNA's to represent the group on issues and policies.

17. Responsible for the monthly CRNA schedule.

18. Responsible for the vacation schedule.

19. Conduct monthly CRNA meetings and submission of CEU's to the AANA for 2 CEU's/month.

20. Completion of Annual Performance Appraisals for staff CRNA's in collaboration with the input from the Anesthesia Chair and/or Vice Chair/Medical Director and Departmental Administrator.

21. If requested, attend the portion of Anesthesiology Departmental Faculty/Executive Meetings/Charge Meetings having CRNA issues being discussed.

22. Promote intradepartmental (anesthesiology) and interdepartmental (administration and nursing) communication and participate in conflict resolution.

1. Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, positioning of patients, standing, walking, and carrying of patients, materials and equipment weighing 40+ pounds.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Proficiency with computers.

2. Strong communication skills.

3. Knowledge of Human Resources Policy and Administrative Experience is preferred.
