Nurse Professional Development Specialist

Professional Development Specialists are responsible for the following:
- Provides professional nursing care based on nursing standards, policies, and procedures.
- Serves as a role model and mentor for students and other staff.
- Maintains accountability for own practice and aspects of care delegated to others.
Primary Function:
Under the supervision of Nursing Director of Professional Services, the Nurse Professional Development (NPD) member will cover surgical step-down areas throughout the hospital and develop, provide, and evaluate hospital-based staff performance education within the assigned Patient Care Service areas. The NPD staff member will also participate in the nurse residency program with the NPD team and the NRP Coordinator and collaborate with NPD team members with the float pool staff that cover all areas. The NPD staff member overviews education needs and performance requirements to develop programs that foster career growth and outstanding job performance for the clinical staff that contributes to department and units covered goal achievement. Collaboration with other NPD staff on nursing initiatives required and active participation in Professional Nursing Shared Governance as a mentor are also parts of the role. Additional parts of this role involve being a change agent, learning facilitator, leader, champion for inquiry, advocate for NPD practice, and partner for practice transitions in the following areas:

Qualifications
Experience: Five (5) years of clinical nursing experience required. Clinical background in Surgical Step-Down Units acute care preferred. Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating teaching/learning experiences. Experience in course development and delivery. Will consider bachelors degree educated candidates as a clinical educator role.
Education & Training: Masters of Science in Nursing required, or to be completed within 2 years of hire.
License, Certification & Registration: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Current certification of BLS through American Heart Association required.
Other Requirements: Demonstrates ability to communicate appropriately and effectively. Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in clinical nursing practice.

Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson's clinical entities or at the University.
