Under the supervision of the DSD Program Director, the Program Specialist, will perform varied duties related to behavioral intervention, programming and in servicing for ICF/ID unit individuals and staff. A minimum of 75% of work time is spent in direct individual contact. In addition, the Program Specialist will perform a key role within the Interdisciplinary Team, working in conjunction with the QIDP (Clinical Team Leader) for Active Treatment (Individual Goals) and in assessment & progress of individual behavior through Behavior Support Plan development and, when necessary, psychiatric consultation.
EDUCATION:
Associate's degree OR Bachelor's degree in Psychology/Human Services or related field preferred; accompanied by work experience as listed below.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of two (2) years of professional/clinical experience working with Mental Retardation Programs required with Associate's degree.
Minimum of one (1) year experience working with intellectually disabled individuals and in goal planning and behavior management required with Bachelor's degree.
Experience in direct crisis intervention with mentally disabled individuals preferred.
Monitors behavior plans and provides crisis intervention and training in all ICF/MID programs.
Develops and implements Individual Behavioral Programs (IBP) under the direction of the Psychology Department and ID Team. This may involve crisis intervention with aggressive individuals or protecting individuals from themselves or other aggressive individuals. Inservices staff on IBP's when initiated.
Monitors individual logs in assigned ICF/ID Programs. Monitors IBP on a daily basis. Graphs data on a weekly basis. Writes monthly progress notes on all clients with IBP's and/or SED's. Notes pertinent information in Psychology Department files. Records monthly progress on IBP's in individual charts. Completes quarterly behavior reports for individual staffings.
Maintains contact and communication with QIDP, Supervisors, Resident Assistants, nursing staff, dietary and Day Program.
Provides on-going training to staff on topics as assigned including effectiveness techniques and programs on crisis intervention. Insures all appropriate behavior modification techniques and procedures are followed by assigned staff. Corrects deviations immediately. Reports serious deviations immediately to Program Manager, Unit Manager, QIDP.
Participates in direct goal planning with individuals in assigned areas. Develops, distributes, files, and updates goal plans providing copies to individual IPP and living unit daily book. Reviews goal planning with staff, including new, discontinued, or completed
