We are looking for a talented AFB Engineer. The Air Bearing Engineer will be in charge of the dimensioning and qualification of the bearing system from the conception to the industrialization phases (air or gas lubricated rotating machines). They will manage the simulation, design and testing activities related to the air bearing system validation per customer specifications, as part of a larger team, contributing to the successful launch of oil-less electrical rotating machines.

Specific Responsibilities Include:
  • Develop specific air bearing system components by ensuring cooperation between design, manufacturing, product lines, procurement, product assurance and protos.
  • Work on a daily basis with the product line to ensure the appropriate bearing system is developed according to the needs, in terms of quality, cost and delay.
  • Write technical reports and supervise components designs. Participate to design reviews, risks and FMEA analysis.
  • Apply and participate in the development of standard methodologies for bearing system dimensioning by simulation and testing (e.g. rotor dynamics, FEA, component and machine testing). Lead and/or participate to specific knowledge-gap projects.
  • Acts as a bearing expert for the product line.
  • Support product development and application launches, launch issues and field issues when appropriate.
  • Apply Six Sigma tools to design a robust product. Interact with the multiple cross-functional teams for new components and concepts integration into the whole product.
  • Participates in the collaboration with external companies and universities in the context of his/her projects.
  • Maintain relationship with top players in the field of expertise (universities, labs, suppliers,...) in order to anticipate trends, stay on top of industry best practices and define the best strategy for tools development.
  • Ensure Design For Manufacturing to facilitate the industrialization process (balancing and assembly).
  • Participate in initial supplier selection and APQP.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Masters degree is a plus
  • 0 - 2 years of bearing system dimensioning
  • Knowledge in rotor dynamics and integration of bearings in rotating machines
  • Knowledge of air foil bearing design and principle is a plus
  • Skilled in simulation and understanding of product and process design tradeoffs
  • Knowledge of test rigs, instrumentation, data acquisition and analysis systems (LabView, MATLAB, Python) is a plus
  • Knowledge of materials and manufacturing methods is a plus
  • Strong communication skills
  • Hands-on approach

Pay Range

The salary range for this role is between $87,400 and $117,000.

*Note that this range represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, position offered, education, training, and/or experience.
