We want you to join our team Overall Purpose: The Paralegal position assists the entire Regulatory Legal team on a variety of legal projects with a focus on supporting matters before the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Location: Hybrid (see below), downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Responsibilities: 1. Complaint Defense Support (40%) – assist the Company’s in-house and outside legal counsel in the defense of formal customer complaints before the PUC, Office of Attorney General, and Better Business Bureau. Tasks include: review complaints to identify legal and factual issues; coordinate investigations with Company’s Regulatory Consumer Relations team; draft legal filings; prepare exhibits; assist legal counsel with hearing and witness preparation; compile, file, and serve legal documents; assist with discovery; monitor dockets; and perform legal research. 2. Other Regulatory Proceeding Support (20%) – assist the Company’s in-house and outside legal counsel in the development, preparation, filing, litigation, and resolution of legal matters before the PUC and FERC. Tasks include: draft and edit legal filings and correspondence; assist with review, summarization, and analysis of Orders and other party filings; coordinate litigation activities among multiple Company business units and external consultants; compile, file, and serve legal documents; assist with discovery; monitor dockets; perform legal research; and support the communication and implementation of proceeding outcomes to Company business units. 3. Regulatory Filing Support (20%) – assist with preparation, editing, and filing of periodic regulatory filings, such as tariff updates, PUC and FERC informational reports, and other regulatory compliance filings and recurring obligations. Maintain tracking of regulatory filings to ensure timely, high-quality submissions. 4. Miscellaneous (20%) – monitor outside counsel billings; maintain Regulatory Legal files; maintain litigation and reporting calendar(s); oversee matter management systems/procedures (which may include supporting the implementation of, and conducting training on, matter management software solutions); learn and access Company computer systems for documents and legal proceedings (including WAM, Maximo, and Oracle CC&B); support other projects and initiatives of the Regulatory Legal team; support other legal departments within the Office of General Counsel as needed. Education/Experience Required: Bachelor’s Degree in related field with emphasis in legal studies, or Paralegal certification with at least four years related experience working as litigation paralegal at a law firm or in-house legal department. Education/Experience Preferred: Experience with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Scope: Primary focus is on daily deliverables, outputs and reporting. Typically accountable for managing one's own time and work flow. Responsible for using prescribed guidelines to analyze situations and solve problems. Work is typically of moderate complexity requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Continues to build knowledge base and develop capabilities by partnering with more experienced staff as needed. Decision Impact: Problems and issues faced are vague but may be recognizable based on past experience. Accountable for some direct level of reasoning and decision making in straightforward situations based on precedents. Hybrid Work: Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs. Storm Roles: All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset. Examples of storm roles could include but aren't limited to duties such as: working with operations for service center support or with the communications, customer service or government affairs teams to respond to public and customer requests for information, etc. Data Governance: Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
