Job Purpose:

The Coordinator for Art and Social Engagement will develop and implement arts programs for older adults. These programs-which take place at the High Museum of Art, online, and off-site-focus on engaging older adults at risk for social isolation or who experience loneliness. Working under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Creative Aging and Lifelong Learning, this position will

coordinate: program development, implementation, research and evaluation, and project administration.

This is a fixed-term, grant-funded position on-site at the museum in Atlanta, Georgia. The grant period runs through August 2026. Expected salary: $45,000.

The High Museum of Art's Learning and Civic Engagement Department is committed to creating audience-focused, accessible, and engaging experiences with art that allow visitors to gain new understanding of art and ideas, develop their creative and technical art-making skills, and connect more deeply with themselves, each other, the museum, and the arts more broadly. We do this in alignment with the museum's guiding principles-growth, inclusivity, connectivity, collaboration-and the education methods of the department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Program Development (25%): Working closely with the Assistant Director, Creative Aging and Lifelong Learning and other internal and external stakeholders, conceive and plan arts engagement programs for individuals at risk for or experiencing social isolation and/or loneliness. Planning includes organizing community conversations, recruiting participants, reserving spaces, booking and co-planning with facilitators, and ordering and preparing materials.
  • Implementation (50%): Working closely with the Assistant Director, Creative Aging and Lifelong Learning, execute 40-50 programs per year and facilitate internal and external knowledge sharing. Program implementation includes set up and clean up, welcoming participants, and occasional facilitation or co-facilitation. Program models may include multi-week or monthly programs discussion- or studio-based programs, tele/video conference programs, and physical mail-based programs. Knowledge sharing includes developing and implementing professional development for internal and external stakeholders, including co-organizing a professional convening on Art and Social Isolation, co-developing staff training, and creating a suite of digital resources to aid the field in expanding work with older adults at risk for social isolation.
  • Research and Evaluation (15%): Research national and international programs, initiatives, and studies related to reducing social isolation and loneliness in older adults (including but not limited to arts-based programs) and create an annotated bibliography. Working with external academic evaluation partners, co-create and coordinate comprehensive evaluation of pilot programs. Evaluation responsibilities include administering evaluation tools, including questionnaires, program observations, participant interviews, and focus groups, and compiling related data.
  • Project Administration (10%): Provide essential administrative support for grant activities and general operations, including documentation, payment processes and expense tracking, grant reporting, attendance tracking, as well as regular communications with patrons and collaborators via phone and email.
  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in art, humanities or social sciences, or related field, or 4 years professional experience.
    • Experience planning and facilitating art-related programs for adults preferred.


    Skills & Abilities:
    • Excellent research skills, particularly regarding art, art history, and the humanities.
    • Ability to engage people from multiple walks of life, to create and sustain inclusive welcome across all programs.
    • Strong facilitation, communication, and customer service skills. Ability to interact in a professional, courteous, and empathetic manner with staff, collaborators, and participants is essential. Comfort with multiple forms of communication, including in writing, in person, and via phone.
    • Excellent project organization skills, ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and maintain attention to detail.


    Physical Requirements:
    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and looking at a screen.
    • Operating in an environment with moderate noise, with occasional periods of loud noise due to crowds.
    • Navigating classroom spaces, setting up, moving, and storing supplies.
