Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center is a nationally ranked cancer center located in the heart of Downtown Richmond.This is an hourly part time position and is not eligible for benefits.

This clinical research coordinator position will be at the Cancer Survivorship Research Laboratory, led by Dr. Oxana Palesh, which is in the Department of Psychiatry and Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center at Virginia Commonwealth University. We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated individual with a bachelor's degree in psychology (e.g., clinical, counseling, social, educational), epidemiology, public health, medicine, nursing, or a related social science field with an interest in conducting cancer-related behavioral intervention or observational trials. Individuals from underrepresented racial or ethnic groups are encouraged to apply. Prior research experience or training in behavioral sleep/neuropsychology is a plus, but is not essential. A major focus of the lab is to understand the association between sleep and cancer treatment outcomes. Women's health is another area of research focus. The successful candidate will work as a member of a large, multi-site research team that will evaluate the impact of a behavioral intervention on sleep and be involved in studies evaluating neurocognitive impairment in cancer patients.

Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

Typical duties and responsibilities of this role include:

  • Schedule and/or call subjects for appointments; contact participants with reminders or other requirements
  • Prepare, distribute, and process questionnaires
  • Perform clerical duties in the preparation of regulatory documents. Maintain all forms and documents, including consent forms and master subject logs. File all appropriate correspondence
  • Assist with the screening, recruiting, and obtaining consent of study participants. Review medical records and/or perform telephone or in-person interviews to gather data, as needed
  • Administer standard study questionnaires and tests, score test measurements and questionnaires, and code data for computer entry. Perform quantitative review of forms, tests, and other measurements for completeness and accuracy
  • Extract data from source documents for research studies as directed. Collect data and complete case report forms
  • Perform basic measurements and tests on patients according to protocol, such as obtaining vital signs and performing phlebotomy and EKG, after appropriate training/certification. Collect study specimens according to protocol
  • Prepare, process, and ship specimens/samples accurately under well-defined requirements
  • Order and maintain equipment and supplies
  • Process study compensation payments and thank you letters to subjects upon completion of trial activities. Assist with post-study activities, as needed

Preferred Qualifications
  • Completed Bachelor's degree and/or one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training
  • Past experience working with clinical populations
  • Past experience conducting MRI scans
  • Past experience administering and scoring neuropsychological tests
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and independent problem-solving ability
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to set independently priorities, coordinate with multiple team members, work in a fast-paced environment, and exercise sound judgement in setting priorities
  • Working toward certification(s) to perform basic patient measurements and tests, such as phlebotomy and EKG


Salary Range: Commensurate with experience, starting at $12/hour
