Job Summary:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer performs and oversees engineering tasks related to requirements development, mechanical design to satisfy functional and performance requirements, verification and validation testing, mechanical systems integration, and bench testing of a heavy fuels aviation engines coupled with electrical power generation and storage systems. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will also support ground and flight testing of unmanned aerial vehicles, including structural design, modification, repair, and data gathering to inform CAD, CFD, and CAD modeling and program status reporting. Works with eVTOL design SMEs, Chief Technology Officer, test engineers, other engineers from different disciplines (electrical, aerospace, systems, industrial, etc), and Program Management on defining and completing tasks.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • May lead and direct the work of other engineers and stakeholders while acting as the Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Perform a range of design development, analysis, or review tasks under minimal supervision.
  • Act as a lead on less complex tasks and responsible for a portion of a design or section of an analysis or design review.
  • Generate complete design specifications of more complex projects.
  • Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.
  • Establish and maintain a filing system or databases as needed for tracking project status.
  • Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.
  • Provide a direct interface and liaison with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews, and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.
  • Conduct site visits and investigate engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.
  • Integrate designed components into function subsystems and engineering prototypes.
  • Oversee, support, and participate in production of designed elements.
  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.
  • Support development of technical proposal and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.

  • Experience in producing analysis reports that detail requirements analysis, analysis of alternative, system mechanical design, and system integration and test
  • Experience in risk analysis, risk management programs, and Risk Analysis Reports
  • Experience in providing engineering design analysis to identify problems that may affect a component, physical integration, or systems performance in the field
  • Experience with CAD, FEA, and CFD software, MATLAB, SIMULINK, and/or Solid Works
Desired Skills/Abilities:
  • Experience with aviation engine repair, especially heavy fuels engines
  • Experience with aviation cooling, airflow, and related disciplines.
  • Experience with hybrid electric powerplants
  • Experience with composite layup processes and composite repair
Education, Experience and Certifications Required:

Minimum:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related STEM discipline or A&P License
  • 5-10 years of relevant work experience
  • Must be a U.S citizen. Must possess or be able to obtain a Secret security clearance
Preferred:
  • Aviation Propulsion Test and Evaluation experience
  • 8+ years of experience in the field or related area
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • While primarily an office job, may require time at a manufacturing facility or other location
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • CONUS travel may be required from time to time
