Responsibilities The purpose of the Principal Software Engineer position is to ensure internally developed software applications and program changes meet or exceed expectations for architecture and delivery. This position provides system architecture, design, performance, and reliability in every aspect of the software development lifecycle. This position requires a significant degree of creativity, innovation, evaluation and constructive thinking. This position also champions and promotes all aspects the Software Engineers discipline to the Software Engineer Team. This role would generally not have budgetary responsibility, but decisions may affect the services or products. This role requires regular analysis of data and the ability to meet interpersonal, analytical and organizational demands. With system architectural decision making, the Principal Software Engineer provides assistance and consultation on complex projects, leads in the development and execution of system design and architecture, analyzes capabilities of new software engineering trends and technology to provide recommendations to the AVP of Software Engineering and ensures all projects and initiatives are completed on time. Working under limited supervision, the problems encountered are somewhat complex and may require analysis of data. Finally, the role will require normal courtesy, tact and diplomacy, which involves much personal contact with others. SKILLS: * Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills * Works closely with Software Engineering Team to promote architectural design and appropriate design patterns/trends. * Develops and continues to expand a sound understanding of every aspect of the software development lifecycle to improve execution and delivery of software. * Analyze project requirements and plan, design, and execute the building of complex interconnected reliable software components. * Research new software engineering tools and promote adoption of new trends in software engineering to the full team. * Mentor junior software engineers on application architecture and design by fostering an open learning environment. * Maintains and champions all aspects of Software Engineering to the team and department.
