DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides in a variety secretarial services to our Behavioral Health, Intellectual/Developmental Services (BH/IDS) and Drug and Alcohol (D&A) Services Program's Base Service Unit to support our program specialists, supervisors, and case managers. You will provide telephone coverage to the BH/IDS/D&A Base Service Unit by screening calls, completing D&A and BH phone screenings, providing information, taking messages, and referring more complex calls and emergencies to the appropriate staff. This includes checking callers' Medicaid Status and corresponding with courts and probation regarding DUI client recommendations. Other duties include:

  • Independently typing correspondence, reports, and forms, as well as proofreading to ensure that the information is grammatically correct, accurate and complete.
  • Studying and analyzing operational procedures including program requirements as provided by Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) & Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) and processing referrals and requests for services as set forth in said regulations.
  • Completing data entry, maintenance of data programs, and running reports from the BH/IDS Program's computer system and Statewide Home and Community Services Information Center (HICSIS) System.
  • Maintaining active files for BH/IDS, both paper and scanning files as well as purging or shredding files as necessary.
  • Ensuring mail is processed in the most efficient way.

You will also have the opportunity to complete similar, related duties and learn about the other offices in the BH/IDS Program. By serving as a floater, you will provide essential secretarial coverage to these units when needed. This will include the Psychiatric Outpatient Medication Clinic, taking telephone calls, making appointments, preparing and filing charts, the ID Unit, the Early Intervention Program, and the BH/IDS Administrator if necessary. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerk Typist 1 and educational development to the level of eighth grade; or
  • Completion of a high school business curriculum which included at least one typing course; or
  • Any combination of equivalent experience and training.

  • Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Northumberland County.
