Under the supervision of a registered professional nurse the Central Sterile technician participates as a member of the Perioperative nursing team. The Central Sterile Technician performs tasks that support clinical operations. The primary focus of this position is receiving sorting inventory, decontamination, and sterilization of surgical items. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires. INTEGRIS Health is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.

Responsibilities

* Receives, sorts, inventories, decontaminates cleans, inspects, and sterilizes surgical items. * Loads and operates washer-decontaminators, ultrasonic cleaners, and sterilizers. * Dates, stores and rotates sterile and non-sterile items. Inspects for outdated items. * Uses and evaluates sterilizer test indicators. * Inventories and maintains prescribed levels of sterile items for the operating room, Emergency Room and other clinical areas that require sterile instruments. * Reports defective material or equipment and takes appropriate action to repair or replace items. The Central Sterile Technician reports to the Clinical Director of Surgical and Obstetrical Services. Performs job duties in a manner that will ensure a physical environment free of hazards to self and others. This position may have additional or varied physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements. Moderate exposure to hazardous risks, including potential for exposure to infections and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment, chemicals. Potential for bodily injury related to lifting and incidents of workplace violence. Must follow universal safety precautions. Exposed to constant interruptions, noise, disagreeable odors, and assorted chemical. Is required to take call. Qualifications

* Requires one-year certificate from college or technical school or one year of related experience and or training.
