With over 200 employees we strive to provide high-quality and innovative health care services to the Finger Lakes Region. Job Summary: This is a split Scribe/Medical Assistant (MA) position, and will report to the Scribe Coordinator. The MA is responsible for the initial assessment of patients. The MA is responsible for completing blood draws, taking vital signs and collecting valuable information from which our providers make clinical decisions. The ideal Medical Assistant has the desire to be on a highly functioning team that works well together with Clinical Teams, Community Health Workers, and Patient Navigators in order to provide the best healthcare solutions for our patients. Often, the MA is the first medical staff personnel to interact with a patient, setting the tone for the visit. The Scribe will accompany clinicians during patient visits and document dictated history of present illness, review of symptoms, examinations, and patient history in an electronic medical record system. Medical scribes work closely with clinicians as a apart of the team based patient centered care that Finger Lakes Community Health provides, but are not patient care providers. Scribe Duties/Responsibilities (Reports to Scribe Coordinator): Annotate any dictated or written information for the treatment of patients following all local, state and federal guidelines for documentation into the electronic health record system. Clearly and accurately recording each patient’s symptom’s, history, physical exam and documenting the diagnosis Able to manage laboratory and imaging orders as dictated by the provider Maintains appropriate behavior in the examination room and does not improperly interact with patients. Completes chart documentation in a timely manner. Able to find and summarize past medical visits from external progress notes. Uses correct medical terminology and makes minimal grammatical charting errors. Medical Assistant Duties/Responsibilities (Reports to Nursing Manager): Assures patient history is complete Obtains vital signs Prepares patients for minor surgical procedures Prepares patients for pelvic exams Assists with pelvic exams as needed Prepares lesion/wounds for examination Dresses/redresses wounds after examination Prepares and collects HIV, blood glucose, urine sample, strep, and Hemoglobin C1a screenings Print lab results from websites Notes all labs sent out Disposes of sharps and other hazardous materials Ensures sharps are locked Sterilize exam room Ensures instruments are clean and in good working condition Monitors and restocks examination room Notifies Supervisor of supplies needing to be ordered Performs other duties as directed by supervisor Required Skills/Abilities: Possesses strong organizational skills Ability to communicate with the public Maintains a professional relationship and positive attitude with co-workers, the public, patients, and the entire organization Excellent customer service and problem solving skills Education and Experience: High School or Equivalency Diploma CPR Certification Required Prior experience is a plus, but not required Physical Requirements: Must be able to hear and communicate with clients and staff on the telephone and those who are served “in person.” Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must have vision that is adequate to read electronic and paper document formats. Must possess manual dexterity, to perform writing and keyboarding tasks.
