Purpose: This position is responsible for monitoring, supporting and troubleshooting all aspects of technology devices and associated systems including but not limited to configuring hardware and software, maintaining, repairing, and upgrading network/data systems, and managing the installation and testing of hardware and software programs.

The position will effectively collaborate with various departments to timely identify IT problems and perform maintenance to keep programs and hardware systems functioning properly.

Reports to: Information Technology Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide support for servers and the requirements of the infrastructure. Capable of resolving and enhancing hardware and software of PCs/laptops/mobile devices. Provide System Administrator responsibilities.
  2. Provides day-to-day technical systems support to users for all admin and maintenance applications and acts as a beta tester for new software versions and applications.
  3. Perform PC base hardware and software support for corporation and individual users/associates.
  4. Acts as an information resource to employees concerning computer and software applications; researches and resolves problems; and incorporates answers to repeated questions into training program.
  5. Support operating systems, email clients, software applications, and other crucial software of the organization/clients.
  6. Aid in software and hardware implementation, inventory, documentation, etc.
  7. Besides hardware, install peripherals, including hard drives, monitors, keyboards, printers, scanners, copiers, etc. Provide administration and support for video conferencing. Follow cyber security guidelines to ensure the security of the systems.
  8. Resolve reported and identified software issues promptly.
  9. Troubleshoot software problems and take corrective action.
  10. Determine requirements and technical specifications, evaluate PC desktop hardware and Mobile hardware/services, and deploy hardware.
  11. Create new accounts, which include applications access, desk/computer setup, email mailbox creations, and phone extension assignments.
  12. Order and setup company mobile phones, instruct the employee how to use the phone.
  13. Maintain all printers, fax, copies, computers, software and hardware from various vendors.
  14. Determine requirements and technical specifications, evaluate PC desktop hardware and Mobile hardware/services for upgrades and deploy hardware/software.
  15. Provide hardware and software upgrades that are considered to be essential as per strategic initiatives of the IT department. Regularly interact with vendors to order and maintain crucial equipment.
  16. Upgrade computer systems with new releases and drivers and firmware. Provide support and patches for software of all operating systems.
  17. Move, add, change user equipment, such as cabling, as required. Plan, document, deploy and take part in other support activities. Comply with information security measures as dictated by management and policy. Secure systems using backups and access controls.
  18. Guide end users on usage, security, access, and tweaking of applications and software. Monitor, assess, fix and upgrade system and application issues so that systems function uninterruptedly.
  19. Training users on how to appropriately utilize their computer systems.
  20. Acts as liaison between software vendors and WeGo\MTA; coordinates installation of updates to applications.
  21. Consulting with managers to determine what role the systems play in the business.
  22. Works with others on a special project basis to assist in the design and format software programs to achieve desired results; performs other special projects as assigned.
  23. Choosing and configuring the hardware and software of a system.
  24. Testing the systems on a regular basis to ensure quality and function.
  25. An adaptable and flexible attitude, allowing them to approach and solve a problem by examining it from different angles.

  36. Actively and continuously improve professional knowledge, skills and abilities by participating in routine training sessions and educational seminars relevant to job duties.

  • Position works in an environment where there is some exposure to dust, noise, and temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include, dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals.
  • While at the Nashville MTA operating facilities, incumbent should observe all policies, procedures, safety precautions, and regulations using provided protective clothing and devices.
Additional Physical Requirements Include:
  1. Working in various weather conditions such as rain, cold climate etc.
  2. Lifting up to 40 pounds
  3. Climbing stairs and ladders and working at heights
  4. Working in confined spaces
  5. Working with ITtools requiring fine motor skills


Required Skills, including but not limited to:
  • Strong knowledge of best IT practices and computer systems
  • Appropriate skills for dealing effectively with co-workers and the public, in person and via telephone and email
  • Ability to quickly become a 'subject matter expert' for software and hardware systems
  • Ability to independently identify and define problems within complex hardware/software platform, determine contributing factors and root causes, and recommend and implement solutions
  • Familiarity with and proficiency in the use of computers, including Microsoft Office products as well as specialized diagnostic and device configuration software
  • Use of standard office equipment, including telephone, fax/copier, etc.
  • Advanced computer skills and data entry ability
  • Moderate knowledge of Microsoft office suite
  • Understand and carry out detailed written or verbal instructions
  • Solid ability to use prudent judgment and problem-solving skills to make reasonable and appropriate decisions and recommendations
  • Speak clearly and distinctly

  • Ability to work any schedule; evenings, weekends and overtime as needed
  • Maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff
  • Conceptual knowledge of or ability to quickly learn standard data communications protocols such as IP, UDP, TCP, FTP, etc.
  • Experience in configuring communications devices
  • Familiar with or ability to quickly learn data communications OSI model
  • Ability to read and understand flowchart diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Ability to work and drive in all types of weather conditions
  • Ability to quickly acquire additional technical skills to support existing and new on-vehicle systems and devices through both instructor-lead training and self-guided learning
  • Ability to handle multiple projects

  • Associate degree or equivalent in technical support field; two or more years of experience in similar work may waive degree requirements
