Construction Estimator Low Voltage

Department: Estimation/Pre-Sales
Job Summary: The Estimator in the Low Voltage Security Industry is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and timely estimates for various low voltage security projects. These include systems such as access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, and fire alarms. The role requires a strong understanding of the industry, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. The Estimator will work closely with the sales, project management, and engineering teams to ensure estimates align with client requirements and company profitability goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Estimate Preparation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for low voltage security projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Technical Analysis: Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine scope of work and project requirements.
- Vendor Coordination: Obtain quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring competitive pricing and accurate lead times.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential project risks and incorporate contingencies into estimates to mitigate financial exposure.
- Client Interaction: Collaborate with sales and project management teams to develop proposals that meet client expectations and align with project goals.
- Bid Review: Participate in bid review meetings, providing insights and justifications for pricing decisions.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and organized records of all estimates, including revisions and final versions.
- Market Research: Stay informed on industry trends, pricing fluctuations, and new technologies to ensure competitive and accurate estimates.
- Software Utilization: Utilize industry-standard estimation software and tools to streamline the estimating process and improve accuracy.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development and refinement of estimation processes and templates to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of [X] years of experience in estimating within the low voltage security industry or related fields.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred; relevant experience may be substituted.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of low voltage systems, including access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, and fire alarms.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with estimation software such as Bluebeam, Accubid, or similar tools.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with the ability to produce accurate estimates under tight deadlines.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
- Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail and accuracy in preparing estimates.
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with various stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and propose solutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with AutoCAD or similar design software.
- Knowledge of local building codes and industry standards.
- Project management experience or certifications.
