Job Description:
  • Our Principal Engineer works with our Distinguished Engineer and Senior Engineers to innovate and build new systems, improve, and enhance existing systems as well as identify new opportunities to apply your knowledge to solve critical problems.
  • You will lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering products and unlock new engineering capabilities.
  • The Cluster Management team's mission is to bring to reality the next-generation container cluster management and orchestration platform on Kubernetes that is secure, reliable, scalable, and highly efficient.
  • The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in designing, building, and maintaining highly secure Kubernetes-based cluster management platforms at scale, including operating on physical hardware or public clouds.
Job Responsibilities:

As a Principal Engineer, you will:
  • Focus on multiple areas and provide technical and thought leadership to the enterprise
  • Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve our toughest problems
  • Develop and execute technical software development strategy for the IaaS Engineering domain like containers and cluster management, while optimizing for performance and efficiency
  • Own accountability for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions
  • Be a role model and mentor, helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community. Influence and educate executives
  • Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams
  • Analyze cost and forecast, incorporating them into business plans
  • Determine and support resource requirements, evaluate operational processes, measure outcomes to ensure desired results, demonstrate adaptability and sponsor continuous learning
  • Take on-call and operation support
Job Qualifications:
  • Strong foundations in software engineering
  • Experience with software development, software delivery lifecycle, application modernization, DevOps, Service/Infrastructure as Service and Operations
  • Professional experience in software development in at least one modern programming language, including Go, Python, or Java
  • Experience with open-source platforms with an emphasis on building enterprise-scale applications using caching, events, SQL, and NoSQL databases
  • Hands-on experience with public and/or private cloud environments (OpenShift, Kubernetes, Azure, AWS, GCP, etc.)
  • Experience in Multi-cluster networking based on service mesh like ISTIO, Linkerd, Envoy, or Consul
  • Experience in Multi-cluster metrics, observability, and operations with frameworks such as Grafana, Prometheus, Jaeger
  • Experience with API, Microservices, network and security architectures, and design patterns
  • Experience in security protocols and products: Understanding of Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth
  • Basic understanding and managing CI/CD toolchain products like Jira, Git, Artifactory, Jenkins, Anchor, SonarQube, and IaC tools like Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, and Chef is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement resilient, scalable, and efficient solutions
  • Experience building architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems
  • Fluency in DevOps Concepts and Cloud Architecture
  • Strong Shell scripting
  • Experience in data center structure, capabilities, and offerings, including the Azure platform and its native services Relevant cloud and container certifications are a huge plus
  • In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks
  • Excellent communication skills, able to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Required Experience:
  • 6+ years of professional IaaS/PaaS software development experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • 4+ years of experience in open-source frameworks
  • 3+ years of experience with architecture and design
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
  • 1+ years of people management experience
Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
