This position makes independent judgment/decisions and takes action regarding a wide range of issues including instruments and equipment involved in anesthesia care while collaborating with appropriate disciplines to coordinate continuity of patient care in support of the medical and nursing plans of care while in the Operating Room. The coordinator provides perioperative support for all anesthesia needs in the department, and ensures continuity between the operating room, emergency department, intensive care unit, and cardiac cath lab, angio, FBC, MRI, and MDU. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: Ensures service specific resources are available and maintained as necessary/required. Schedules management of anesthesia technicians.Participates in orientation and training of new anesthesia team members.Stocks and/or oversees stocking of anesthesia machines and all anesthesia related supply carts and trays.Coordinates with vendors for new products, trials, and equipment.Coordinates with Central Processing regarding all instruments and supplies related to the specialty service.Develops, plans, and implements process improvements within the service. In collaboration with management, establishes and implements clear plans and goals with regard to improvement in the specific surgical service.Alerts leadership to actual or potential issues or problems in a timely manner.Initiates/assists with projects, based on unit needs in conjunction with leadership.Communicates clearly, respectfully, and responsively with Anesthesiologists to their needs, concerns, etc. and follows up with leadership as applicable.Serves as a clinical resource related to anesthesia needs and supplies.Completes unit-specific and annual competencies on time.Implements, participates in, and evaluates service specific orientation and education needs in conjunction with OR Nurse Educator for all caregivers required. Serves as a role model, preceptor, and mentor to new caregivers.Remains current with communication via e-mail, verbal communication, meeting minutes, and other means of communication.Rotates stock to and assures use only before expiration.Responds with supplies/equipment during routine and emergent situations.Remains knowledgeable of all anesthesia related equipment. Diagnoses or troubleshoots equipment and repairs and/or initiates repairs.Collaborates for preventative maintenance and/or replacement of anesthesia related equipment.Provides coordination of evaluation equipment and purchasing of new equipment.Coordinates Anesthesia Quality program in the Operating Room.Develops and maintains a comprehensive Work Instruction manual.Assists anesthesiologists with various clinical procedures.Sets up and operates various equipment supporting anesthesia servicesMaintains communication with other departments as it pertains to anesthesia.Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.Supports Lean principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.EDUCATION:Required: High school diploma or GED.Preferred: Bachelor's degree in related field. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:Required: Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification. Preferred: Anesthesia Technician or Technologist certification from the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians. Certification as a paramedic through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians or current certification as a paramedic through the Oregon Health Authority.EXPERIENCE:Required: Minimum three (3) years of experience in Level II or Level I operating room. Extensive experience with anesthesia/operating room equipment. Preferred: Minimum three (3) years Level I Trauma Center as an Anesthesia Lead. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Continually (75% or more): Standing and walking, keyboard operation, use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level. Frequently (50%): Sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1-25 pounds.
