Job Summary
•This role is responsible for overseeing a team of machine learning engineers and data scientists, guiding the development of machine learning models, and aligning them with business goals. The Data Science Lead designs and builds robust models to support business decisions and strategies. The role triages new AI/ML use cases and formulates a plan for delivery. The role communicates technical development progress, challenges, and outcomes to stakeholders and senior management. The role provides technical guidance and mentorship to team members and fosters a culture of continuous professional growth.
Responsibilities
•Provides direct and ongoing leadership for a team of individual contributors that design, deploy, maintain and monitor machine learning models, pipelines, and systems.
•Collaborates with business stakeholders to understand use cases, user experience requirements, and goals. Then establishes development plans commensurate with these requirements.
•Oversees end-to-end machine learning model lifecycle, from data collection and preprocessing to model selection and optimization, to deployment and ongoing maintenance.
•Drives the selection and application of appropriate machine learning algorithms, techniques, tools, and CI/CD pipelines.
•Manages headcount, deliverables, schedules, and costs for multiple ongoing products, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated, and that goals, objectives, timelines, and budgets are met in accordance with program and organizational roadmaps.
•Communicates technical development status and escalates issues to direct managers, program managers, and internal and external development partners.
•Manages relationships with internal and external partners, including setting expectations regarding deliverables, product quality, schedules, and costs; ensures that team members are effectively communicating and collaborating.
•Regularly evaluates and considers new applications, use cases, and proofs of concept to keep the organization at the forefront of AI and ML technology.
•Provides people-care management for assigned team members, including hiring, setting and monitoring of annual performance plans, coaching, and career development.
•Ensures that proper knowledge and career development tools are in place to support ongoing team member and process development.
Education & Experience Recommended
•Four-year or Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
•Typically has 7-10 years of job-related experience or 5-7 years of management experience, preferably in computer programming languages, machine learning, algorithms, statistical methods, or a related field.
