SUMMARY Firefly is looking for an experienced Site Reliability Engineer to assist in ensuring IT assets and services which are highly distributed across campuses, launch sites, and ground stations are highly available, reliable, and scalable. This position is a highly unique opportunity to apply Information Technology skills and experience to support systems and teams responsible for putting launch vehicles in orbit. RESPONSIBILITIES Develop instrumentation and analyze metrics from operating systems as well as applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding Partner with business, development, and infrastructure teams to ensure all critical assets and services are being monitored with early warning alerting to resolving teams Participate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning Identify opportunities to improve resiliency of systems and services through automation Join incident calls then perform post-incident review to identify cause and contributing factors then capture and track mitigation activities to resolution Work with product owners to understand expected service levels based on risk to the business Maintain an enterprise CMDB (configuration management database) to ensure the IT organization has relevant and accurate information on all assets and services Build and maintain real-time performance dashboards and report on service-level agreements and objectives QUALIFICATIONS Required Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in computer science or related discipline Coding experience beyond simple scripts Experience with server virtualization solutions and concepts Experience with distributed storage technologies such as NFS, HDFS, Ceph, Dell Unity, and Amazon S3 Extensive experience with dynamic resource management frameworks such as Apache Mesos, Kubernetes, Tanzu, Docker, and Yarn Proactive approach to identifying problems, performance bottlenecks, and areas for improvement Desired Previous experience supporting VMWare Ability to use a wide variety of open-source technologies and cloud services Previous success in technical engineering and IT operations Ability to program (structured and OOP) using one or more high-level languages, such as Python, Java, C/C++, Ruby, and JavaScript Firefly offers outstanding benefits for our employees, including generous health, dental and vision plans with low plan deductibles, parental leave, educational reimbursement, short term disability, and flexible PTO options.
