The primary responsibility for a pipe layer is installing underground pipes, which vary in size and type for heavy civil construction utilities projects. This includes rigging pipe for hoisting, setting pipe to grade, and affixing the pipe joint. The Pipe Layer position requires manual labor as well as assisting other crew members as necessary with hands-on work. Pipe Layer Responsibilities: Work cooperatively with the crew to accomplish tasks; Lay and join pipe for drains, sewer, and water lines - rigging pipe, setting pipe, and affixing pipe to joints. Maintain tools and equipment so that they are kept in good working order and safe for use Participate in training and other forms of development to strengthen technical, safety, and other skills. Consistently monitor and maintain compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Maintain a clean and safe work environment including equipment operated Perform a variety of general labor tasks as required for the job. Other duties as required. Pipe Layer Requirements: Thorough knowledge of applicable safety precautions. Strong communication skills to coordinate workflow with production operator. Ability to work under general supervision according to work schedule. Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency. Knowledge of and ability to determine appropriate grades. Ability to figure grade & read plans.
