Job Purpose
The Eligibility Specialist 4 works across Savista service centers, client sites, and field locations to identify and secure insurance or financial assistance for uninsured or underinsured patients. This includes processing claims such as No Fault (MVA), Workers' Compensation, and PLIGA, and referring patients to state and federally funded programs, including Medicare, Medicaid, disability, and charity services. The role requires advocacy for the patient and collaboration with internal teams, clients, legal representatives, insurance adjusters, and government agencies to ensure medical expense coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct patient interviews (in-person, over the phone, or at field locations) to gather necessary information for account resolution.
- Manage follow-up for multiple eligibility programs and handle high volumes of inbound/outbound calls related to eligibility inquiries.
- Use Savista's screening tools to determine eligibility for state and federal programs, ensuring financial assistance for current and future medical expenses.
- Assist patients in completing applications for financial aid, obtaining necessary documentation and signatures.
- Submit information on behalf of the patient according to institution and/or company protocols.
- Act as a liaison between patients, colleagues, client hospitals, and government agencies to establish eligibility for medical coverage.
- Adhere to AIDET communication principles and maintain a high standard of customer service.
- Meet or exceed productivity and accuracy targets, ensuring an application error rate of less than 5%.
- Travel up to 20% to patient homes, government agencies, or medical facilities as required.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, FDCPA, FCRA, and other relevant regulations.
- Successful completion of Savista's Charity Care training and testing program
- Successfully complete and obtain Presumptive Eligibility Certification for the State of New Jersey.
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish or other languages).
- High school diploma or GED.
- 4+ years of customer service experience, including patient interactions.
- Intermediate knowledge of patient access services and their impact on revenue cycles.
- Basic understanding of commercial and government insurance plans, payer networks, and medical terminology.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex information.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse patient populations.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks and handle escalated issues.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and multiple databases.
- Ability to maintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
- Ability to obtain Public Notary Certification for the state of New Jersey (if applicable based on Client contract requirements).
- Valid driver's license and personal automobile for fieldwork (if applicable).
- 2-4 years of experience working in a healthcare revenue cycle role with direct involvement in eligibility screening, claims processing, or financial counseling management in a healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with insurance verification, Medicaid, Social Security, or charity care processes.
- Experience managing high-volume calls via automated systems.
Note: Savista is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $23.00 to $27.00. However, specific compensation for the role will vary within the above range based on many factors including but not limited to geographic location, candidate experience, applicable certifications, and skills.
