Environmental Specialist

to join our team. Under the general supervision of the IES Technical Manager, the Environmental Specialist supports compliance in air, water, waste, and remediation disciplines for the EPA-authorized State of Hawaii regulatory programs. Occasional inter-island travels necessary to support neighbor island operations. Desired competencies include accuracy, attention to detail, and knowledge of environmental regulations. The ideal candidate must be able to establish priorities under tight deadlines and have a proven track record as a motivated, self-starter who can work on multiple projects and priorities within a fast-paced environment. Refinery/terminal/process plant experience is highly desirable. SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the IES Technical Manager, the Environmental Specialist supports compliance in air, water, waste, and remediation disciplines for the EPA-authorized State of Hawaii regulatory programs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provides environmental support (both in office and field) as necessary to terminals and retail stations including but not limited to conducting inspections and audits as directed. In Plant/General: Supports field leadership in investigating HES&S incidents and assists in coordinating the required documentation. Collects soil samples for spill clean-up activities. Assists operations with job pre-planning for waste minimization and management. Coordinate with contractors to address any issues that arise Evaluate and plan waste reclamation and recycling opportunities Researches, supports and assists with regulatory compliance reports in all disciplines as directed by the Technical Manager. Interfaces with other teams to review project scope of work to determine potential environmental impacts and mitigation measures. Participates on oil spill response team and other emergency response teams as required. Teamwork – Works effectively with coworkers and others by sharing ideas in a constructive, positive manner; listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others; keeping commitments; keeping others informed of work progress and issues; addressing problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical solutions; and respecting diversity of the IES workforce in actions, words and deeds. Maintains commitment to a high standard of safety, complies with all safety laws and IES safety policies\rules and reports actual and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel to further IES core value of safety. OTHER DUTIES: Proactively updates and maintains operating standards, emergency procedures and any other documents as needed. Performs a variety of special assignments as directed. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related field. Requires a minimum of three years’ experience or an equivalent combination of education/experience in environmental compliance preferably in a petroleum refinery/terminal/process plant. Skills Proficient Microsoft Office Suite skills, including editing and proofreading. Strong sense of team spirit and ability to transfer it to others. Ability to work independently. Ability to evaluate information and exercise good judgment in making decisions. Ability to maintain confidentiality. PAY AND BENEFITS: Island Energy Services offers a competitive salary that commensurate with qualifications and experience.The hiring salary range for this position is $80,000 to $110,000.
