Position Title: Database Administrator

Location: 80% Remote, 20% Chicago, IL

Introduction:

Rivet Operations Company ("Rivet") has an opening for a Database Administrator. This position will be in support of the U.S Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) providing IT Support Services. Rivet is an exceptional industry partner to the Department of Defense (DoD) and a leader in cyber security, IT management, logistics, supply chain management, process improvement and development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Not listed in order of importance; other duties may be assigned) and must be able to perform the following with minimal guidance:

  • Provide support for installation, configuration, and migration, and perform day-to-day troubleshooting and performance monitoring of all databases.
  • Monitor and tune the database environment on a regular basis to identify bottlenecks, capacity issues, operating system, and database software-configuration issues, and remedy them.
  • Proactively tune the database by working closely with developers of applications, that run against the database, to make sure that best practices are followed, resulting in good performance.
  • Support and implement all relevant security patches and other-directed security measures for Database Management systems (DBMSs), as well as other miscellaneous software that may reside on servers.
  • Develop, implement, and periodically test backup, recovery, and restoration plans for databases.
  • Back-up systems, application software, Web content, and databases on a continuing basis to ensure minimal loss of capability or data in the event of a catastrophic host or facility failure.
  • Maintain system documentation in accordance with the Change and Configuration Management policy and procedures.
  • Fault management and analysis, configuration control, and automated performance monitoring on applicable services, servers, and devices.
  • Open-minded, leans forward, and does not hesitate to reach out to others for help.
  • Passionate about technology and excited about learning new systems.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

  • Associates degree required, Bachelors Degree preferred (Computer Science, Engineering, etc.).
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and obtain and maintain the required security clearance for the position.
  • Possess a Microsoft 365 Certified Solutions certification.
  • 5 years of experience with MS SQL, ASP, .NET, VB, and JAVA scripts.
  • Experience with Windows Server 2016/2019.
  • Experience with Azure virtual environment.
  • 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require typing and reading from a computer screen. Must have sufficient mobility, including but not limited to bending, reaching, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. There is a possibility that due to parking availability and location of work, walking moderate to long distance may be required. Possible lifting up to 25 lbs.
