About the Job:
The Milieu Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and supervision of the patient milieu staff for all elements of direct patient care during work shift. Ensures the wellbeing of patients and provide a positive, supportive and structured environment, under direction of charge nurse or supervisor.

Roles and Responsibilities:

•Monitors shift change activities to assign staff, review staffing for the units and adjusts as necessary.

•Facilitates and monitors patient care and programming.

•Assists the Charge Nurse with assignments for BHAs, group coverage, charting, breaks, environmental and safety rounds and codes.

•Ensures the wellbeing of patients and provide a positive, supportive and structured environment, under direction of charge nurse or supervisor.

•Applies de-escalation techniques to help manage patient's emotions, behavior and participation in treatment and assist with seclusion and restraint when necessary.

•Facilitates the individual admission and discharge processes, as well as patient transfers.

•Facilitates person-centered planning process with individuals to assess and develop plans based on their needs.

•Ensures proper, accurate and timely documentation of patient information and progress.

•Trains and mentors direct care staff during the shift as necessary, or as assigned by supervisor.

•Audits individual records to ensure regulatory requirements are met. Reports issues to supervisor as necessary regarding compliance.

•Responds to individual, family and guardians regarding concerns.

•Reports pertinent information to the supervisor in a timely manner.

•Assists with patients and covers unit as necessary to maintain ratio.

•High school diploma or equivalent with four or more years' experience in a behavioral health environment required; OR Associates Degree in a human service field with two or more years' experience in a behavioral health environment required.

•Two or more years' experience with the population of the facility preferred.

•Understands common psychiatric disorders and/or dual diagnosis and various treatment modalities of the population served.

•Exceptional knowledge of and skills in verbal de-escalation and crisis intervention.

•CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).

•First aid may be required based on state or facility.
