Job Title: Patient Care Technician CWR Job Specialty: Emergency Department Job Duration: Until further notice Shift: 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM, three 12-hour shifts per week, every other weekend, holidays as needed Guaranteed Hours: 36.00 per week Experience: At least one year of PCT experience in a hospital setting is strongly preferred License: Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, or Patient Care Technician certification including Phlebotomy, EKG, and nursing assistant course Certifications: Maintain current BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association Must-Have: Recent acute care experience Job Description: - Assist registered professional nurses in patient care.- Welcome patients and check for proper identification bracelets.- Prepare patients for assessment/admission, physical examination, and procedures.- Draw intravenous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric-aged patients using proper aseptic techniques.- Perform EKG for patients as directed.- Assure the presence, functionality, and cleanliness of all necessary equipment.- Assist in the transport of patients to departments or units upon request.- Assist patients with meals or feeding as needed.- Check inventory and restock assigned areas as directed.- Prepare room environment for admission.- Provide direct hygiene and comfort care to patients, including bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, incontinent care, and bed making.- Take vital signs on admission under the direction of the RN, document them, and notify the RN of results.- Assist with admission, including checking patient ID bands.- Perform and document glucose finger sticks and collect other specimens as directed.- Obtain and document daily patient weights and observe and document patient intake and output.- Provide a safe patient environment by answering call lights promptly and communicating any changes in condition to the RN.- Identify the needs of the patient population served and modify and deliver care specific to those needs, including age, culture, language, or sensory impairments.- Communicate with patients, parents, and/or primary caregivers at their level of understanding.
